Oak Creek Middle Schoolers Place in Art Contest

The Root River Jr. Woman’s Club (RRJWC) is proud to announce the winners of the Greater Federation of Woman’s Clubs -Helen Farnsworth Mears Art Contest for 7th and 8th grade students.

Winning pieces from the RRJWC contest proceed to the Lakeshore District contest, and winners from that contest will be judged at the GFWC- WI State Convention in May.  

Fifty-three pieces of art were submitted to the RRJWC contest from the following middle schools: Forest Park in Franklin (Mrs. Mohr); Oak Creek East (Mrs. Hahn); Oak Creek West (Mrs. Bogatta); Greendale (Mrs.Lehtinen) and Whitnall in Hales Corners (Mrs. Zietlow). 

The winners in each category, selected by judges with a professional art background, are as follows:

7th grade Drawing and Painting

1st  - Sara Kent, Oak Creek West Middle School

2nd - Liz Fennimore, Greendale Middle School

3rd - Mikayla Bell, Forest Park Middle School

Honorable Mention - Ellen Davis, Greendale Middle School


7th Grade Sculpture

1st - Sierra Rode, Oak Creek East Middle School

2nd - Josiah Wolf, Oak Creek East Middle School

3rd - Alexis Mitchell, Greendale Middle School

Honorable Mention - Molly Williams, Greendale Middle School


8th Grade Drawing and Painting

1st - Katie Ludwiczak, Oak Creek East Middle School

2nd - Lindsay Leonard, Greendale Middle School

3rd - Celia Gonzalez, Greendale Middle School

Honorable Mention - Erica Andrews, Greendale Middle School


8th Grade Sculpture

1st - Pa Xiong, Oak Creek West Middle School

2nd - Mikayla Crawford, Oak Creek West Middle School

3rd - Rachel Shallow, Forest Park Middle School

Honorable Mention - Brenna Murphy, Oak Creek East Middle School

Winning pieces from Franklin and Oak Creek will be on display, as time and space permit at the Franklin library,  Art work from Greendale will be on display at their school in June. RRJWC would like to thank all the students who participated in the Helen Farnsworth Mears Art Contest and their art teachers.  

The Helen Farnsworth Mears Art contest is sponsored by RRJWC serving the communities of Hales Corners, Greendale, Franklin, and Oak Creek, WI.  The group is affiliated with the GFWC, the world’s oldest and largest women’s volunteer organization and has local projects as its primary focus.
