College Ave. Work Could Be Over Soon
Lane closures have persisted in the year since College Avenue reopened, frustrating drivers.
If you've driven College Avenue between Howell and Pennsylvania avenues, you have probably noticed that the orange construction barrels never really went away after the street reopened last year.
Work has continued in the westbound lanes near the tunnel to install street lighting. That has caused lane closures and congestion, particularly during rush hour.
County Supervisor Pat Jursik said in her monthly newsletter that street lighting was added to the original reconstruction project, but late delivery of equipment delayed some of the work. The hope is that all street lighting work is completed before the end of the year, weather permitting.
"My constituents and I have been frustrated at the stalled progress and lane closure," she wrote. "I requested a compromise: that orange construction barrels be moved to the side of the road when no work is being done.
"Milwaukee County Department of Transportation (MC DOT) has been responsive to our concerns and has worked with the contractor to minimize the presence of traffic control devices."
