The family of Punjab Singh, the lone victim of the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin shootings still in the hospital, released a statement Friday updating their father's progress and thanking the community for its support.

"Our beloved father, Punjab Singh, was severely injured on that terrible August day," the family said in a statement issued through Froedtert Hospital. "Despite the heroic efforts of emergency responders at the scene and the medical care he received from trauma specialists and other doctors at Froedtert Hospital, he has not fully recovered. He is no longer in the intensive care unit and now is making a slow and gradual recovery.

"We are grateful for the many messages of support we have received. It is a comfort for us to know people are keeping our father in their thoughts and prayers."

Earlier this week, Froedtert Hospital announced Singh was upgraded to serious condition and no longer requires mechanical support to breathe.

Singh, 65, is a temple priest who was shot in the face by gunman Wade Michael Page during the Aug. 5 attack at the Oak Creek Sikh temple. Page killed six people and injured four others.

Police Lt. Brian Murphy and Santokh Singh have been released from the hospital. Amarjit Kaur was treated and released the day of the shootings.

Punjab Singh's family previously told the Associated Press in an interview that Singh was in a coma following the shootings.
