Forum Will Bring Debate on Gun Violence to Oak Creek

Why wait for legislation? Oak Creek Mayor Steve Scaffidi says he wants to focus on how each person can do their part to combat gun violence.

As the debate on how to prevent gun violence continues, much of the discussion centers on legislation and big-picture concepts.

But what about things anyone could do, right now?

That's what will be discussed at a Jan. 12 community forum organized by Oak Creek Mayor Steve Scaffidi.

The forum, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at East Middle School and feature a panel with Scaffidi, Police Chief John Edwards, U.S. Attorney James Santelle and County Executive Chris Abele.

Scaffidi is inviting many others, including Sikh temple members, the Interfaith community and mental health and community violence experts.

The mayor has been outspoken about the crucial need to come up with solutions to gun violence — even if it means receiving vicious hate mail, like he has since joining the Mayors Against Illegal Guns group.

As the mayor of a city that went through a mass shooting this year, Scaffidi said he feels an obligation to be an active participant in the debate.

"I was not going to let what happened here just slowly fade into oblivion. We're going to continue to reinforce messages that actually make a difference, whether it's this, whether it's cultural awareness, all of those things," he said.

"That's my role. That's my commitment I made to the Sikh temple."

Last week, Scaffidi joined other mayors, including those in Aurora, Colorado and Blacksburg, Va., on a conference call with Vice President Joe Biden, who is leading a task force seeking remedies for gun violence.

He said when Biden asked him for feedback, he advised the vice president to "give people real things they can do right away" — just what this forum seeks to accomplish.

"We don't have to wait for gun legislation," said Scaffidi, who himself owns two guns used for hunting.

Attendees at the Jan. 12 forum will be given a list of 10 things they can do, or questions to answer, to combat gun violence.

For instance:

  • If you have guns, are they stored safely?
  • Do you know who to call if you notice something or someone that doesn't seem right, to either help that person or safeguard the community?
  • Mental health: if you or someone in your family are not getting the support you need, where can you go?

Those topics and more will be discussed at the forum. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and afterward talk 1-on-1 with guests.

Scaffidi knows the event won't solve the issue overnight, but feels it's a good starting point.

"I wouldn't be doing my job, or any an elected official or leader wouldn't be doing their job, if they didn’t try to find simple solutions to what can be complex problems," he  said.

So now is our newly elected mayor of OC coming after the law abiding citizens who own firearms now? Sure seems to be the machines agenda. To disarm the people in order to advance thier agenda. We all know that gun free zones are an open invitation to those individuals who care nothing about human life to caryy out thier destruction!!! PERIOD!!! Lets not forget the true meaning of the 2nd amendment!!

Remember these are not law abiding gun owners randomly stepping out and hurting people. These are people with a desire to commit harm on another individual period!! Gun Free Zones DO NOT WORK!!! IE The aurora shooter traveled to several theatres until he finally found one that was posted No Guns Allowed!!!
All I ask is that we do not knee jerk this rising epidemic by stepping on responsible law abiding gun owners toes.

All ready the focus is perverted by the leading direction of the question posed. The question should not be how to prevent gun violence but on how to prevent mass murders. Stevies community had a mass shooting not a mass murder no wonder he's getting hate mail. Perhaps you and I should send him one also telling him to quit the mayors against guns group they certainly do not speak for me and mine.. I'm sure Steve doesn't know where to send parents of children with mental health or parents with mental health issues for help as there isn't a responsible doctor or clinic just supporters of dope them up doctors who receive big bucks for promoting unsafe mental health drugs that contribute to brain dysfunction and mass shootings not cure it.

We need to look at the system that puts to many road blocks in the way of getting people with mental problems commited, a review of the mass shooting showed that they all had mental health issuies . So we take away the rights of everybody for the sins if a few .

No lawbiding gun owner has ever committed murder. If the agenda hints at infringing on the rights of law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms then the organizers are simple ingoring the constitution. If strict guns laws actually worked, then Chicago, DC, and New York City would be the safest cities in America.

Yes I believe Chicago just celebrated their 500th homicide for the year!! Hmmmmm is Chicago not a GUN FREE ZONE? Well it seems those strict gun laws are working and very well I might add. Yes lets address the real issues here. Mental Health.....Oh but wait we might offend somebody by putting a label on them. So instead we will just step on the toes of legal, law abiding citizens who believe in the Constitution and what the 2nd amendment really stands for!! If I am not mistaking it was solely included to prevent a tyrannical government from taking over the people. It is obvious our leaders want to disarm us!! Only so they can further thier agenda. I mean lets face it the UN has been trying to push total disarmament onto the people of this Country and it appears as though it is gaining momentum.
Sad day for America unless people wake up and see what is happening

I'm not sure the mayor is leading this discussion. Reportedly he is a democrat. Does he actually pay dues and hold a democratic party card? Should we allow him his membership in this council of mayor's against guns? Do we allow our "elected" mayor to present our community against the voice of the majority? I don't think either the mayor or chief of police are calling the shots on this one but are instead being guided by who else the top party in attendance, U.S. Attorney James Santelle
I've got so many questions that I want answers to that they are not going to allow me to ask. This is not a discussion it is a presentation. Whats Chris Abele's part and position? Anyone know? Guess we all have to go and fill out their ten question survey to piss them all off and tell them they are not going in the right direction. The Sikh have been invited. I hope they send the "right" brother to represent us.

I think we are all trying to figure out where the majority of people stand on the issue. Because that's what a civilized discussion is about. Michele-Once again Mayors against guns. Please tell me how that relates to a discussion on how to keep our kids safe. The very people who are advocating tighter restrictions have armed security around them 24/7. Obama, Rahm down in chicago not to mention his kids attend a school with armed security, Senator Feinstein has armed security. So its okay for some but not others. Hmmm seems the people who committed these violent acts were nothing more than evil people period. The police officer who was just shot and killed god rest her soul was a victim of domestic violence. Again those on the left want to blame the gun.
Here is the problem I have with this so called discussion.........

Patriot, just reviewing the posts. The mayor and chief know fully well the position of the residents on guns. If you haven't already- check out the Fox Point Patch. You should have been at the "private" community forum after the shooting at the temple it was enlightening. The Sikh consistently called for gun control. Santelle promised he would change laws. This was confusing as the Sikh's primary religious principles uphold defense of others with the dagger which they want the right to carry legalized. What I didn't know then and know now is many of the Sikh speaking were not local. Also interesting that Wade Page's toxicology report didn't evidence any legal or illegal drug use or did he have a mental health history. The heavy odor of illegal heroin trafficking hangs over this incident someone is bringing the drugs in plus the Sikh have had the Golden Temple raided for trafficking heroin from Afghanistan into Pakistan and into India for final world wide distribution with most coming to the USA. The Sikh need money to feed 80,000 per day that would starve without a meal. Never a mention of drugs now was there or a platform for one to ask. It definitely was not a hate crime as we were told as in hate crimes all are targets. Here, that wasn't the case, the leaders were targets. See ya at the meeting do ya think they will allow me to ask these types of questions and if they do will they give me answers?

Elected officials have been assassinated since the beginning of time. Protecting them is not new its prudent. All of this anger is getting us to the point where we all need to worry about it. That's sick.

It's a discussion. I don't know why you are pro guns but anti free speech. I want my elected officials to talk with citizens and propose change and then we vote on it. I want that. And I am not so tied to the freedoms of the past to not change in order to protect situations like grade schools. If that's with guns and we have a plan then that's fine. If its not I am willing to compromise to make sure babies don't have to needlessly die. It's time to evolve. Again.

The point again Michele is this is not a DISCUSSION. We are not Anti-free speech, we are demanding it to no avail watch and see. . We want what you profess, talk to the residents, practice democratic principles and practices, give us referendums on big issues do not block us thus exclude us from the decision making process. Consensus, is not what happens here in OC. Here the majority of the member on the council including the mayor, voted to repeal the Direct Legislation taking all voice away from the people. Yes, somethings have to be done. I hate to see cops in schools and had a hard time with the position of the NRA and demand on congress to provide "ARMED" security at all schools and to implement it before school resumes in January. Congress isn't even discussing it as we fall off the fiscal cliff. The children of the masses are not being considered timely as after reading I fully agree that parents should demand armed security immediately or refuse to send their kids back to school. Do what you have to do, presently the schools are not safe. Form a volunteer parent group if you have too consisting of persons trained. I read an interesting suggestion to hire and arm returning vets but am hesitant considering the high rates of mental health issues and PTS they are suffering as a group. I am unwilling to compromise on my rights. I caution you,

Michele the problem is as a nation we have drifted from our Christian values and priniciples. We are scolded for talking about God, Jesus or Christianity in public. Yet as Christians we are expected to accept everyone elses values and religious beliefs. We have become such a touchy feely society which lacks accountibility. We are no longer held accountible for our actions. Kids in school are taught that from an early age. They are told over and over if your parents are spanking you come tell us and we will do something. There is zero discipline period!!! That is where the real problem lies!!!

Patriot, as a non-christian I disagree with your defense. You are allowed religious freedom and are not disallowed to practice christian values the problem from my perspective is christian's are not training their children in christian values and thus not preserving their ideology. I don't want my child confused by some of your standards. Thus keep it private, in the home and in your place of worship and open to the public. When I enter your environment I must respect your values or leave. You do hit the nail on the head, we are a society that lacks accountability, which I would conclude is reflective of the christian majority. There is discipline other than corporal punishment. Your probably one of the parents that hasn't been taught the need of structure and principles of behavior mod. We raise our kids like our parents raised us when we don't know any different. No offense intended, my side of the fence.

Sorry Patriot, America is not the best country in the world. Were number one in: Number of persons incarcerated, Elderly folks with dementia, and Defense Spending. Apparently were not number one in debt yet which kinda surprises me. None of our social institutions lead. Were not first in education or health or infant mortality, environment or quality of life. We no longer can resist search and seizure. We don’t have a state militia and if you form one your going to a secure facility. Rights of Due Process have been chipped away over time, with most lacking access to civil courts. (this more than any other factor I take as the root cause of rising numbers of mass killing sprees) Considering people sit long periods of time in jail prior to findings of guilt I’m not sure were considered innocent until proven guilty. We are seldom tried by a jury of our peers, when we can’t afford representation and it’s appointed were appointed perfunctory representation not defense and were charged for it. We can be detained indefinitely without charges or trial. Freedom of free speech hangs in the wind. Our leaders that we reportedly elect betray us to the money mongers, at all levels of government be it local, state or federal. In many respects we’ve become very much like Russia and China. All three countries repress it’s citizenry and have major social problems: Drugs, Alcohol, Crime.

Adults need to stand behind their comments. Bottom line here is The Mayor joined the council of mayors against gun violence and the public doesn't stand behind him. HE knows this, thus the presentation will be just that not a listening session, not a fact finding. It will be so controlled that we will not even be able to raise questions from the floor as is done in an open society. IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT? I don't think so. Yes, in the future send an e. Patriot, you don't have a reply button on your last comment thus I have to post here. Hope you catch it. Here's another fact of concern. TSA, those pesky jerks at the air ports are considered EMERGENCY PERSONNEL, meaning they can be activated. They are reportedly trained in search and seizure, wear a tin badge and are a huge force that could be moved to county, state, and city boundaries in case of civil unrest or crisis in which government wanted us contained. Remember what happen in Louisiana when they wanted to leave? The cops opened fire on innocent Americans and then lied thru their teeth with their superiors covering it up. IT wasn't until after Obama was elected that the survivors of the victims got their day in court.

Michelle makes complete sense. Discuss this issue like adults, not like the chicken littles that run rampant in this country. There is a problem and just arming everyone doesn't solve anything. Completely banning all guns is unrealistic, so let's figure out how to stop these mass shootings and other senseless murders.

The paranoia of folks like Patriot and vocal local 1 are what is sad about this country. The arrogance that Christianity is the only belief and equating the violence with lack of their specific religion. The fear that the government is going to take their lives. The name calling like 10 year olds because their view of the world only goes as far as the end of their guns and their reasoning is as shallow as their threats. It's not about guns or safety, it's about acting like a bunch of rebellious teenagers who feel mom and dad are taking their car keys away. Grow up.

So keep using whatever fear laced, flawed logic that you see on Fox news and continue to repeat them without fact checking nor actually thinking them through and using insults to replace real ideas. I would seriously hope that you all are far more responsible with your guns, because you're doing a very good job of showing that you don't think much.

Patriot, don't get sucked into "stupid". We did not call names as other's on this site accused then used. Lets just hope the forum doesn't turn into the same type of public forum Santelle, sponsored post the Temple Incident in August. Very few knew other than the Sikh. First they were an hour late in starting waiting for the rep from David Myers office to arrive then we had to listen to them all ramble on about what they were going to do to prevent this type of killing again and when the Sikh got up to the mic and started to tell their side the mic's failed. Some one was obviously afraid of loss of control of direction. The FBI took the Sikh temple video to review. Unfortunately, none of the Sikh knew the video was off and the FBI wasn't able to see and report to us what took place. In Sandy Hook, Adam's computer was so damaged they couldn't get any info. POPPYCOCk Also of concern are the reports of several perps here in OC in CO.and Conn. We were told the OC PD officer that shot the perp, killed him. No mention of the perp shooting himself. We know the cops train on head shots but Sam didn't know if he shot the perp in the gut or the head, he didn't see the perp shoot himself in the head. Am I to believe Sam was taking credit for killing the perp with his gut shot when he did indeed see the perp shot himself in the head? Whats wrong with this picture but its the official record/report to the public. All smoke and mirrors. Obama can declare emergency executive order.

Can the mayor and council ban CC in Oak Creek? "If" Feinstein and like minded persons did by some chance pass legislation banning certain weapons and ammo clips would the ban also extend to local police and other law enforcement? Seems to me a CC weapon is more dangerous than one exposed. I'd like to know when I'm in any large group just who is armed in case "an event" occurs. Also, more people are killed each year by blunt objects in attacks than guns in domestic America. Won't a ban on firearms leave more people defenseless of self and others and thereby increase the murder rate? I can't help but see a dichotomy in application of the Patriot Act. Since 9/11 we’ve heard repeatedly of terrorist cells of persons of Arabic decent living here in the USA just waiting to terrorize Americans in the homeland most likely not with guns but with explosives, germ warfare, and other weapons of mass destruction. Consequently, isn’t now a time when we the general public needs militias and the right to bear arms even more important than trying to take them away from those we cannot predict will abuse?

Yes Patriot, WE WILL NOT OBEY. Only 4 million NRA members but fortunately many more American's who own and support gun ownership that will not kow tow to Washington or state or local legislation. I suspect Biden is going to push for a National Gun Registry including long guns and old pistols and other weapons in private ownership currently not mandated to be registered. Fortunately, no one knows this number and people will not cooperate with registration it'll just increase the amount of illegal gun ownership transfers without a paper trail. In short it will be totally ineffective. I also suspect the feds will push for laws on possession in homes where persons with mental health issues reside. Grandpa's got dementia and moves in, get rid of your guns. Your wife is depressed over loss of parent or some other issue, get rid of your guns. Your Kid has ADHD or Autism, get rid of the guns. With one in five Americans suffering mental health such action would severely limit homes with guns now won't it. I currently have a friend coming off mental health meds after about three years. She's a mess coming off too fast without the supervision of any health care professional. She's laid off, no insurance. She has money in the bank and is afraid to spend it on expensive health care or hospitalization. I looked for some volunteer work for her to get her out in the public and couldn't find anything she could do even if she honestly told them she was having some issues.

I voted for Steve, but will never again based on his position to ban guns. This is a non logical position, to arm criminals and disarm law abiding citizens. If it wasn't for armed police the whacko at the Sikh temple would have never been stopped. Lets find a new mayor.

Correction Phil, Steve Scaffidi, OC Mayor's position so far is not to ban guns but to enforce current laws on guns and illegal gun traffic. What this has to do with our city isn't clear to me. Wade Page's guns were legal. He wasn't on drugs, didn't have any mental health history. What I object to is the lack of information released to us, the public. Can the mayor go against the recommendations of the FBI the controlling agency in all mass murders? I think he can and I think he should stand up, ask critical questions and insist we have an informed public. To date considering the temple killings we have not been given much info. Some of what we have been told is contradictory. Further, he does have the power to call public meetings where all can challenge and demand answers depending on the platform afforded the public. Do I really want to listen to more of the same? I'd like to read the entire FBI investigative report. Why did the FBI follow leads leading out of the country? What leads and what was learned? We don't know thus how can we discuss? WIth out all the info, solutions are limited and we stagger on waiting for the next event to happen. I don't like the steering used. I don't like the failure of the press limiting info and leading the public by telling them what to think. I wouldn't want to be a new mayor of almost three months and face the issues a mass shooting brings to a community. The residents, yourself included need to attend the meeting but they don't.

Vocal, beginning with your correction and ending with your comments about meetings I don't understand a single thing you wrote. Let me summarize what you wrote, please add clarifications and write/explain your comments.
1. Wade Page's guns were legal. and.....
2. Wade wasn't on drugs and didn't have any mental health issues.
3. You feel like the FBI hides things from you.
4. The mayor has a right to "stand up" and call a public meeting.
5.Everyone, Media, FBI, Police, tell you what to think
6.You don't want to be mayor
7. I don't attend enough meetings
My position is clear. Further gun laws will not accomplish the desired result of stopping this kind of violence. I'm just as interested as you in eliminating this violence. Those that disagree with guns are using this crisis to make them illegal, which is disingenuous. Chicago has made gun possession illegal, why do they have the highest rate of gun violence in the nation? I can stack you up with evidence showing legal carrying of guns is a good thing, not a negative one.
I live VERY close to the temple, My family and I were outside on our deck when the gun fire started. When the scanner reported a shooter on the loose shortly after, I was never happier I could have protected my family and neighbors if necessary. I will not support a Mayor that wants to take the right from me.

The group the Mayor joined post his meeting with Joe Biden is my understanding is called: “Mayors against Illegal Guns”. They claim their focus is enforcement of existing laws and gun trafficking. What I wrote was Wade Page’s guns were legal, he didn’t have any mental health and he certainly wasn’t trafficking. Thus, I assumed you would recognize that none of the issues of the temple are the focus or rationale for his joiner. We should demand he withdraw at Saturday’s meeting as he is not representing the ideology of the residents of this community. I most certainly do believe the FBI is not a credible or effective agency other than monitoring perhaps the pesky, unintelligent robots at the airport that infringe on our rights each time were forced to enter their domain to the point that we can’t even withdraw consent. The FBI is a cover up agency and should be abolished with the termination of Eric Holder et al. For at least the last twenty years the FBI and courts have sealed investigative and court room documents relating to mass killings. In twenty years the problems have not went away they have gotten worse; we pay them top bucks to work against the public and transparency and freedoms. Look at the states that have had mass killings some repeat like Colorado and Wisconsin. It should tell you something is radically wrong between our society and our government. Deductively, the problem is none other than the Patriot Act which has taken our rights away.

Phil, Cont.
The media certainly does tell the average joe citizen how to think. After all were in a recession now aren’t we for example. You probably won’t get this either. Text book definition of recession –v- depression is that in a recession the economy slows down. In a depression business’s fail. When our top financial institutions fail and the largest manufactures where are we, a recession or a depression? CNN, Fox, the media as a whole lies to the American public by telling them they are in a recession or a double dip or triple whatever and the public parrots it like good little disciples of destruction of the country as a whole. Don’t American’s know the meaning of congruent? Don’t they get the collateral effects? Another example: American’s are proud of their kids in the military fighting foreign investor wars, killing children, urinating on corpses and loudly farting in formation in the presence of foreign dignitaries. When my kid got orders for Kabul I told him to go AWOL not to fight their monkey wars. I wasn’t proud I was ashamed that he was so ignorant. Call me Un-American? No, Born in the USA.

Vocal...ok stay with me here. As you know politicians name laws ironically to garner support in the general public while the law does the exact opposite of its name. Mayors against illegal guns sounds nice, but is inconsistent with what action is proposed. If one were to follow the stated ideology one would go after criminals that have guns illegally NOT make guns illegal and take them from everyone, which is what they are proposing. See the difference? The debate should be made with logic, not emotion.
While I enjoy your rambling, and always respect the opinions of others you are missing logic in your statements. I have no desire to respond to the many other things you've brought up, they sound way more fun to talk about on a bar stool.

Sorry Phil, wrong again. You said the title: Mayors against illegal Guns is inconsistent with the action proposed. You suggest the mayors want to make guns illegal for everyone. "if", your suggestion is correct everyone with a gun will be a criminal and they will go after them. What about this is not logical? In addition, you claim your position is clear: "My position is clear. Further gun laws will not accomplish the desired result of stopping this kind of violence." Gun bans definitely will decrease the numbers of mass "SHOOTINGS", as evidenced in countries with strict gun law. Unfortunately, bans on guns will not stop Mass Killings again as evidenced in countries with gun bans where perps use other weapons. Your right in that I don't want to be mayor. I never understood the contest between candidates for the position. I'd rather have the power of a vote in the decision making process. You my dear flunked logic 101 or never attempted the course work. I on the other hand excelled in logic and application, wanna see my transcripts? In closing if at first you don't succeed, try and try again.

If in fact he does use executive orders to do just that we will be one step closer to Stalins Russia/Hitlers Nazi Germany

Talk a revolution..I suspect Obama is considering a complete ban of guns from private citizens as well as other considerations. He knows the numbers of Americans with guns and our refusal to mediate on the 2nd. Will they pay us for our loss? Will we comply? How would government enforce the law? Considering they cannot search and seize the entire population the only way govt. would know would be by the numbers of guns not returned per the calculated numbers in circulation. They could project numbers of illegal guns in areas but the only way they could search and seize is in connection with a legal search and seizure connected to another crime. Meaning charges and enforcement would become ancillary. IS THIS CORRECT?

FYI: Forum announced in the Suburban Now. One can hardly recognize it's the same meeting. Mayor is not going to tolerate any "hateful" speech. Has anyone asked whats this costing us in police overtime pay? Last Forum there were cops everywhere, each door, each corner, behind the forum members. Something else came to mind today. Reportedly, President Obama, Rahm, now mayor of Chicago, Jessie Jackson, Jessie Jackson Jr. and spouse, and David Myers Faith Based Initiatives, all Chicago homeboys want gun legislation to stop the gang killings in Chicago. Restrictive gun laws haven't made a dent in the problem. Whats wrong with this picture? Remember Janet Reno? Remember Ruby RIdge and the peace living Weavers? Remember Waco, David Keresh? Both were peace loving communities and there were others William Cooper. Government didn't have any problem going in and slaughtering them now did they? But the Nations Guns and Gun laws are under threat to save the slums of Chicago? Don't Tread on ME.

Balbir, Thank You for explaining/clarifying. I suspected the Sikh are being used. I also read there is some dissension between the youth, especially in our case the “Americanized youth” pull from conventional teachings. The issues are not simplistic especially with the perversion of truth sustained with denial of information. The situation brings to mind the English Woman’s Suffrage Movement which went something like: Stand beside us, do not grovel, do not beg. I can’t remember more and my book is packed much to my chagrin. You were with Jessie Jackson, what did you learn? I’m interested in Rev. Jackson’s thoughts on mental health post his son’s problems. I hope Jr. isn’t doped up. What happened to him that confused his whole world? Did he see how ineffective his work as a senator was and how he was being used by the establishment for who knows what purpose. It’s a very strange world we live in Balbir. I always have to remember it is our actions today that preserve or deny freedoms for our children, our successors. In my life, I obviously have not been effective, really understood the collateral effects, have not fought hard enough to preserve and guarantee my children and grandchildren would have the same opportunities afforded them that were afforded me.

I just returned from the forum. Same garbage as before. No opportunity to step up to the mic and ask critical question we have to date been denied the right to ask. Again, questions were submitted and chosen. The "conformed" white supremacist was a joke. He didn't know Wade Page but he states Page joined the White Supremacist. When I questioned him after he admitted he didn't know him, didn't have contact with anyone that knew him didn't in fact know Wade Page was or was not a white supremacist. . Santelle was up on stage talking about this as a Hate Crime. James Santelle of all people knows the Temple Shooting was never officially classified as a Hate Crime. The Social Worker who replaced the Sikh Social Worker from the first forum parroted general babble. The mental health experts have lots of help lines but no real help to offer, more of the same. All in all it was a boring event but the Quizno's vegetarian subs were tasty.

@Vocal-I was there as well. Have to say I felt a real underlying message that was being presented. As for the reformed white supremacist well he was a pawn for their message. Not impressed at all. There were no hard solutions or offers of solutions. I took away from this a hidden agenda to get a feel for where the community stands on gun control.

@Vocal- I have to agree with you. I felt as though the Mayor did not want to hear or discuss anything that he did not agree with. As he stated it was a waste of time to argue or disagree so to speak. Well that says to me its his way or no way. Guess what Mr Mayor we WILL VOTE YOU OUT!!!! With that attitude you DO NOT SPEAK FOR THE PEOPLE!!! Rather you are speaking for a select few.
It makes me sad for what took place back in August but the feeling I left your forum with yesterday said to me that you were and are speaking for the Sikhs and not the majority. Bottom line you have an agenda and you are going to push your agenda forward regardless. Again as you stated its pointless to disagree or argue or discuss. Also you made mention of the 1st Amendment yesterday, but failed to mention one of the most important Amendments, the 2nd Amendment. Although you had it copied onto your Meeting Agenda yet did not mention it. Hmmmmmmmmm and you say this was not about gun control? Totally about gun control but in a very psycological way.

Wish I could make it if I was there to put a Sikh perspective, if allowed that is, to this garbage. I am in Fresno, CA for the weekend but patiently following the developments. Trust me, these "temple" officials (who can not even identify place of worship as A Gurudwara due to their complexes) do not represent the Sikh of Milwaukee period. Basic everyday Sikh prayer salutes the sword, spears before the Ardas begins. These economic refugees are far removed from Sikh ethos, principles and its philosophy.

@Balbir- Yes from what I have been trying to learn about Sikhisim is that your people/religion believes in the almighty sword. It is also my understanding that the sikhs have pursued the ability to carry their swords? But because of our laws you are restricted in doing so. I support your religion and the laws of your religion obviously within reason. Just as our 2nd Amendment has some limitations as well. I would entertain the thought of talking with you sometime and learning more about your religion and culture.

It sure seems that history is once again repeating itself. So similar to the pre revolutionary days when the British Empire tried to rule the people.

During the 1760s pre-revolutionary period, the established colonial militia was composed of colonists, which included a number who were loyal to British imperial rule. As defiance and opposition to the British rule developed, a distrust of these Loyalists in the militia became widespread among the colonists, known as Patriots, who favored independence from British rule. As a result, these Patriots established independent colonial legislatures to create their own militias that excluded the Loyalists and then sought out to stock up independent armories for their militias. In response to this arms build up, the British Parliament established an embargo on firearms, parts and ammunition on the American colonies
