Officers and family members of a Milwaukee County sheriff's deputy killed on duty exchanged comforting hugs with each other at Tuesday's funeral services.

Sergio Aleman, an Oak Creek resident, was killed while on duty in a crash on Interstate 43 on July 31.

Aleman was driving a pickup truck and had just finished helping another deputy with a suspected impaired driver in the northbound lanes of I-43 at the time of the crash.

A funeral service for the 49-year-old deputy was held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Milwaukee. A procession of law enforcement officers and family accompanied Aleman’s body from the church to St. Adalbert Cemetery.

Aleman is survived by his wife, Jeana, and five children.
