Gov. Scott Walker Outraises Tom Barrett By Big Margin in Oak Creek
Incumbent Republican governor takes in over $13,000 in campaign contributions from city residents, while his Democratic opponent nets about $3,300.
Whether Gov. Scott Walker or Democrat Tom Barrett will win the gubernatorial recall election — or carry Oak Creek, for that matter — won't be known for sure until all the ballots are counted Tuesday night.
What is known, however, is that when it comes to campaign contributions, the incumbent Republican governor has outraised the Milwaukee mayor by a more than 4-to-1 margin in Oak Creek.
A Patch analysis of campaign finance reports filed last week with the state Government Accountability Board shows that Walker has raised $13,135 in Oak Creek.
By comparison, Barrett took in $3,280 in Oak Creek since he launched his candidacy in March, campaign finance reports show.
See who is donating to Barrett and Walker with Patch's interactive database of campaign contributions
The Patch analysis looked at more than 196,000 individual contributions reported to the state — more than 152,000 records for Walker and more than 44,000 for Barrett. Those contributions totaled $16.9 million for the governor and $3.4 million for his challenger.
The top Oak Creek donors to Walker were: P. Terry Anderegg, $1,000; Elaine Giles, $650; Michael Whittle, $500; Jennifer Rozwadowski, $500; and Jay Wangerin, $500.
Nobody in Oak Creek gave Barrett more than $300, campaign finance reports show. The top Barrett donors here were: Mary Martinez, $300; Daniel D. Zimmerman, $250; Robert Dehli, $250; and Christopher Frelka, $250.
The Patch analysis looked at individual contributions only. Money the two candidates received from political action committees and other outside groups were not included in the tally.
Walker's edge over Barrett in contributions can be found in the rest of the Milwaukee-area suburbs, according to the Patch analysis.
In all, Walker raised more than $822,000 in the 18 communities in the Patch coverage area, while Barrett took in about $259,000 in those places.
The community where residents gave the most to Walker was Waukesha, where there were more than $319,000 in donations. Barrett fared the best in Shorewood, where he took in about $60,000.
The only communities where Barrett raised more cash than Walker were Shorewood and Whitefish Bay.
Overall, 75 percent of the individual contributions to Barrett came from Wisconsin — about $2.55 million. After Wisconsin, Barrett took in about $152,000 from California and $134,000 from Illinois — each making up 4 percent of his total donations.
About 31 percent of Walker's total individual contributions were from Wisconsin — roughly $5.26 million. The governor received $1.36 million from Florida (8 percent of his total donations) and $1.23 million from California.
The $20 million or so raised by Walker and Barrett this year is just part of the estimated $62 million that has been spent so far in Wisconsin's heated recall election, according to the nonpartisan Wisconsin Democracy Campaign.
According to the watchdog group, total spending is nearly double the record for a statewide race: $37.4 million set during the 2010 gubernatorial race, which was also between Walker and Barrett.

I pray to God that the people of this State use common sense and logic before casting their ballot on Tuesday. Regardless of how you feel or things you may dislike you really need to look at the facts!!! Gov Walkers reforms are working. The Barrett campaign has been all over the place from act 10, jobs, women, john doe and now that Barrett has conceded to the official Jobs numbers, his latest attack now is Wisconsin was dead last with job creation. Considering the entire country only created 69K for the month of may we are doing pretty good. Plus the fact their is so much uncertainty with the recall looming over everybodys head.
Its really hard to argue the fact Gov Walkers reforms are working for those communities who have adopted them. Property taxes for the first time in 12 years, balanced budget, a surplus!!! Compared to Barretts failed city, ranked one of the poorest citys with a 10.1% unemployement, one of the highest unemployment numbers for african americans, covered up violent crimes, his wife who illegally used MPS resources for political work yet Mayor Barrett does not talk about that!!
Vote Gov Walker and Rebecca Kleefisch to continue moving this State forward!!

You rubes make me laugh. You'll believe anything. It's a good thing our great teachers are teaching YOUR children about the evils of people like Walker. Walker took their money and resources away, so now they will make sure YOUR children know the truth about the situation.

@christine ..... i certainly hope you are not a teacher. regardless, teachers should not be offering political opinions in their classrooms. my child know to let me know if a teacher is trying to influence them politically.

Christine is proof positive that liberal teachers, and their unions, are scum that prey on children.

BARRETT HAS 2 GREAT FRIENDS ON HIS SIDE, Clinton who had sex with MONICA in his office, oh no, that wasn't sex according to him. The other well known person who is on his side is Jessie Jackson, who cheated on his wife and asks for forgiveness. Barrett is also ok with abortion. He has no family values, you decide Tuesday.

The ones donating the Walker are the same people who will put their house for sale in 6 months because they are irresponsible with money and think they are richer than they are.

Appropriate that Barrett received his out-of-state $$ from Illinois and California. The two most bankrupt states of the union. Connecting the dots.......
Wisconsin can vote to continue to progress or regress to the minority special interest(s).

Patriot.....I also pray to God that Governor Walker stays in office. Why would anyone want to go back to high taxes (Barrett raises Milwaukee taxes 7 out of 8 years he has been in office) and back to stripping us of our Constitutional rights. Barrett is also fine with the killing of unborn babies and same sex marriage. Why would anyone wonder why are country is going down? Governor Walker is a man of morals and values and has taken Wisconsin out of debt. These liberals are having a tantrum because they finally have to pay their share (a very small share) like private employees do for their benefits. Christine, how about sharing the information of where "our" children, as you say, are being told the truth? I would like to report those people or YOU.
