Updated: Health Dept. Closes Prime Table Restaurant

After a cockroach was found in soup, the restaurant and health department are working to "remediate the situation."

Update 1:10 p.m. Thursday: The Prime Table Family Restaurant remains closed after a customer complained of cockroaches in soup.

A sign on the door says simply "closed." Patch has been unable to reach anyone at the restaurant for comment.

The Oak Creek Health Department has said it is working with the Prime Table to "remediate the situation."

Original story below:

****

The Oak Creek Health Department has closed Prime Table Family Restaurant after a customer complained about a cockroach found in soup.

The health department confirmed the existence of cockroaches and has suspended the restaurant's license for active vermin infestation, Health Officer Judi Price said.

"The establishment is working with the Health Department to remediate the situation," Price said.

A phone call to the business went unanswered late Tuesday afternoon.

Prime Table, 7864 S. Howell Ave., is located in the Oak Creek Plaza shopping center near the intersection of Drexel and Howell avenues.

Saw a roach crawling on counter where the cook puts out the food 2 weeks ago. Wife had a spider in her water (alive) couple years ago. She never went back. I'm done going there. Heard lots of stories.

Yuck. Won't ever be able to get that thought out of my mind. Not sure you can recover from something like this without major changes. Even then I don't think I could go back. Sad. Someone their must have known this was going on.

Cheapest restaurant in OC. Will never be cleaner than it will when it opens back up. I support them. I'm sure some of the kitchens in these commenters' homes are worse...

Jane K.....what are you talking about? Your ignorant comment has absolutely nothing to do with this public restaurant. We don't go to eat at some of the kitchens of these commenters', as you say. This is a public restaurant and there have been rumors for years about how filthy this restaurant has been. Even past waitresses have complained how disgusting the food has been handled and where it has been placed. It's about time and long overdue that the health department has finally shut this place down. If they reopen, I hope the health department keeps up on checking the temperature of the food, where it's placed and how clean they keep the restaurant and bathrooms.

Sorry Jane, but I don't have cockroaches in my kitchen or my home! I'm sure you support them because you probably work there, have worked there, or know someone who does. That's fine, however when it comes to public health, it is disgusting and there is no excuse...

No Doc, I don't think your correct in that where there is a lot of cooking there will be bugs. That whole strip mall is probably infested and will have to be treated for some time to totally eradicate the unwanted roaches. They can /will hitch hike a ride with carry outs and to ones home. Management had to know they had a problem and didn't follow proper procedures. Good thing we have a health dept that is responsive and will follow up on the problem now that they are aware. Personally, I wouldn't eat there. Roaches that they knew about and obviously were not treating. . What other dirty practices do they habitually employ? Three Brothers in Bay View and the Phister, Crown Room were also crawling. I don't know about currently.

Nice one Jane, I remember the time I cooked metal in my soup at home. That restaurant has been disgusting for years. We had spoiled chicken there, on top of two separate times of metal in the soup. On top of another time of having plastic in the soup. I should have reported this place 15 years ago.

Jane,

I am a director for a large establishment in food service. Our kitchen is spotless...and you know what, it's not hard to do! Not saying it's inexpensive, but it just takes some responsibility and effort. It's part of the real COST of doing business.

As Vocal Local said, I wouldn't get anything perishable from that entire strip mall.

This is disturbing. Irresponsible management is unnacceptable and should not be tolerated. I only at there once, like 12 years ago and wasn't a fan. But I don't mind Golden Chicken over there or the Chinese Retaurant. Unfortunately that whole strip mall probably has over a million roaches in there. Disgusting. All it takes is an egg to get attached to your shoe and you're infested. Can't me out for visiting this strip mall ever again. I'm Oak Creek through and through and something like this really bothers me. A clean kitchen is the best kitchen. Disappointing. To the commentator who said our kitchen are worse... give me a break, Oak Creek is a good town, I am confident most people keep reasonably clean and roach free kitchens! Get a clue!

Pleasant staff, reasonable prices, quick service and a bottomless cup of coffee. I'm saddend that our families (and many other famililes) favorite place for Sunday breakfast allowed this to happen. I hope they can reopen and restablish themselves. It won't be easy, but I'm rooting for them.

Disgusting, I ate there once and it didn't do anything for me. You can't tell me none of the kitchen staff ever saw a cockroach back there...I'm sure it's an issue they knew about but tried to keep it under wraps or deal with it themselves. They can re-open, but I'd never go there again.

We have been going here for 15+ years and have never had a problem! I can't believe some of the stuff I am reading! The food is great for the price you pay!! Always had the best deals in town unless of course you prefer greasy fast-food. I hope they can fix this issue and that they check the whole strip mall!!! Roaches don't just go to one place I wouldn't be surprised if they are all over the mall. If this place is as bad as people have been saying the health department would've done something about it years ago! But like I said I've been going for 15+ years without a problem!

I have been going here for 4 years now and i have always had the best service. The owner is very nice and generous. The wait staff dress nicely and presentable. The servers are very patient and fast. The food is to do for, its always so yummy!! I have never had the issues above. Prime table has always appeared to be clean so i don't know what you people are talking about. The roaches could have came from another place in the strip mall. Even the cleanist place especially in the winter roaches and other bugs will be attracted to warm buildings. The restaurant is open for business and better than ever.

Angela, thx so much for a mature & helpful response to my questions. I do agree that the bug problem can def come from alternate sources. Iv been in the busn long enough to know that even the cleanest busn can deal w/many diff types of bugs & the source of the problem can even come from a single person coming into a rest who has a bug issue in their own home & all it takes is 1 to cause a huge prob. So b4 people do so much finger pointing, maybe they find out the facts. There r other rest in the strip mall. Thx for ur input & i think % will follow thru & apply for the server position. If all goes well, maybe I will have the pleasure of being ur server some day.
