How Much Do School Administrators Make?

Local administrator salaries are mostly in line with other Milwaukee County districts. Use our interactive database to see which school administrators are the highest and lowest paid throughout the state of Wisconsin.

School adminstrator salaries in the Oak Creek-Franklin School District are largely in line with nearby communities, according to data compiled by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Superintendent Sara Burmeister made $153,497 last year, the seventh-highest amount out of 19 Milwaukee County superintendents, according to the DPI.

The numbers are from salary information released on the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction's website. The data is from the 2011-12 school year.

School districts across the state saw a larger than usual cut in staffing in the 2011-12 school year than in year's past, according to a press release from the DPI, with 2,312 positions eliminated. Sixty percent of those were teacher jobs.

"The 2011-13 state budget made historically high cuts to education funding," the press release said. "General school aids were cut by $749 million and the per pupil revenue limit was reduced by $1.6 billion from prior law. These large reductions accelerated the budget and staffing cuts many districts have been making over the years."

The Oak Creek-Franklin School District budget passed with a levy increase of less than 1 percent and all programs intact.

This database will allow you to search administrative salaries only in the 424 districts statewide.

Thanks Mark! Information is power. Too many feelings after elections and recalls. Let people see for themselves. Benefits add another 30% or more to the Salary I'll guess. All the noise was never about the kids and was only self-serving.

So pathetic that OC taxpayers are paying for Burmeister's fancy new condo in Milwaukee's Third Ward, while our kids and teachers are struggling because of budget cuts!

If we are trying to save money, can someone please explain to me why the High School has 4 Assistant Principals and 5 Secretaries???? What on earth do those people do all day? Maybe it's time to cut back on office staff instead of teachers.

Maybe consider how large the high school is...and the discipline issues that might need the assist. principals. Staffing is no different than in neighboring communities in comparison to school size. Try volunteering in one of the schools for a day to see how hard the teachers/staff work...

Call me crazy, but I don't look at the salaries as either being high, or low. I'm not in education, nor do I play an educator on TV. The real question is if we are getting the best value for our dollar? Could we get the same spending less? Could we get better spending the same? Or if we spend more, do we get exponentially better? Those are the real questions that need to be asked and answered.

And do we get the most bang for our buck when we go see a doctor? We are placing our children into the hands of highly educated professionals and asking them to care for them, and educate them...to have our child's best interests at heart...and most all teachers do! They should be compensated for the long hours, the educational background...and the planning, teaching of summer school, and classes they take during the summer to come back in the fall with new strategies and ways to teach.

The real question is would any of you do what our Superintendent of Schools does for that amount of pay??? Whoever got the idea that summers are off for the administrative staff?? Not true!

Saying that we are paying for her condo? What she does with her salary is NONE of our business.

I would like to know how many of you actually know what she does!

One last thought - if your kids are struggling, how is it that they all have cell phones and drive cars to school and yet very few of them have jobs! Not what went on when I went to school.

dont assume for a minute that every kid at ochs has a cell phone or car and doesnt work.... my kid doesnt have either yet has a job. so what's your point? if your parents had the option back in the day they probably would have gotten you a cell. im just too cheap to pay for one for him.... or a car. i did buy him a nice bike that he rides. is that appropriate? regardless... what parents do with regards to how they raise their children is NONE of YOUR business.

Some very uneducated commentsbeing made on this subject. Number #1, Administrators work full time and do not have summers off. #2, the high school hasover 2200 students and each assistant monitors 1/4 quarter of them, they are very busy. #3, why do we have to question her choice of residences, grow up.

I don't question the pay for a good district administrator. Oak Creek Public Schools test scores are in the gutter. Oak Creek is getting mislead by Burmeister. In this case, we are not getting what we pay for.

This administration could easily be replaced by professionals that are aware of the laws and rules that are changing. OC is getting a reputation for not following the federal and state laws set for students with special needs. It is clearly affecting the learning of all the students. Taxpayers are getting shafted by some of this ineffectiveness at the administrative level.

Administration could be replaced but we'd have a hard time finding a replacement for Burmeister that is as competent. She gives the mucky mucks what they want and can twist the numbers with Cramer's assistance like no one else that I know. I don't think she got a raise this year. Didn't the board give her a bonus instead? New Condo, 3rd ward? Lucky Girl. Anyone wanna crash her next cocktail party just to see who's there? I'm a bit concerned with Paul Vance. Didn't he retire? Isn't he double dipping by collecting his retirement and a hefty salary? Time to completely retire him in my opinion. If the residents don't like it they can home school and see if they can do any better. The residents could attend the annual budget meeting which none do and the school board and committee meetings which again they don't unless it's some sports issue. As for the kids with special needs if the parents cannot resolve the problems in district they can call in the state and the Dept of Civil Rights to investigate and correct violations of the law and attempt to get proper programming for their "special needs" child that is expensive to serve and rather counter productive to society. Few if any special needs children are successful. 80% of the emotionally disturbed end up in the prison system so why bother? Good place to start cutting as the parents don't seem to carry over the work of the experts into their homes anyway. Close the bloody schools. Stop govt. from interfering with family.

Vocal Local 1. Most of your comments are way out of line and date except that Burmeister is the CEO of the school district and those of us who have worked or know her understand that she has her own interest always first. The district is pretty much a joke in the education business but you are right. No one comes to meetings so this is what we get.

Seems like there is a lot of positive happening and changing that "outlook" starts at home. Negative comments made by parents which are overheard by children become counterproductive...the district isn't there to serve you...but to be a partnership in educating our children. It is easy to criticize when you aren't the one "crunching the numbers" and working w/in the guidelines of state and federal regulations.

@FHS parent.... are you really a parent or a school system employee in disguise? I've tried many times to contact my children's teachers only to get negative responses only leaving me wishing i had left them in private schools. I laugh when you say negative comments are counter producitve... because most of the teachers do not want the partnership you talk about..... they are the ones who are mostly negative...
