Interstate to/from College Ave. Restrictions Long-Term

I-43/94 restrictions to and from Downtown Milwaukee are in place for the long-haul.

Traffic restrictions to/from College Ave. to/from Downtown Milwaukee via I-43/94 were implemented over the weekend as part of I-94 N-S Freeway Reconstruction Project.

Travelers from I-43/94 Southbound are no longer able to exit at College Avenue. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has set up a primary detour route for Milwaukee traffic at the southbound Howard Ave. exit. Drivers who get off there should travel east to Howell Avenue, then south on Howell to College.

An alternate route suggested by WisDOT is to utilize the I-94 East (southbound) exit to Rawson Avenue, where you can reach College via 27th or Howell.

This restriction is scheduled to be in place until late November, when an access ramp from I-94 East to the southbound C-D roadway will be opened. This will provide direct access to the College Avenue exit for traffic from Southbound I-43/94 .

Access to 1-43/94 Northbound from College has likewise been shut down. Traffic from College Avenue will need to take Howell north on the detour route to Howard Ave. for access to Northbound I-43/94.

WisDOT also recommends I-794 at Layton (via Howell) as a possible alternate detour route for travelers heading to Downtown Milwaukee.

This access restriction is scheduled to be long-term, remaining in effect until late summer 2012.
