MADACC Seeks Donations For Injured Dog

Dog was hit by car; owner is unknown.

The Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission is seeking donations to help fund the surgery necessary for a dog (pictured at right) that was hit by a car in the 5200 block of N. 44th St. in Milwaukee.

Anyone wishing to help should send a donation to MADACC, 3839 W Burnham St., West Milwaukee, WI, 53215 and place "injured animal fund" in the memo field.

The owner of the dog is not known, a tragic reminder that pets need to be licensed, said David Flagler, MADACC executive director.

"If the dog had been licensed, we could have immediately contacted the owner for her return; but right now, we have no leads as to who owns the dog," Flagler said in an e-mail.

"This dog is an excellent example that pets need to be licensed. 2012 licenses are now available. People can do their pet a favor by keeping a current license on their pet in the event that their pet should get lost."

The current estimate is $3,000; but MADACC employees are shopping around for a veterinarian who can perform the surgery at a lower cost. The puppy is doing fine under pain medications until such time as the owner is found or surgery is performed.

There's an update on this poor pup! Wisconsin Humane will be taking her into their care and working with an orthopedic specialist to get her fixed up. They are still taking donations going toward her medical costs. http://saveourcollie.chipin.com/surgery-for-5-month-old-collie-at-madacc
