Man Accused Of Robbing Woman In Her Home
Police say a 21-year-old South Milwaukee man entered a woman's home and took her purse at knifepoint.
A 21-year-old man is accused of entering an Oak Creek woman's home and robbing her of her purse at knifepoint.
Alex J. Povlich of South Milwaukee has been charged with armed robbery with threat of force. He faces up to 40 years in prison and $100,000 in fines if convicted.
According to a criminal complaint:
On Oct. 17, a woman in the 8400 block of S. 15th Avenue heard her front door open about 10:05 p.m. and saw a white man wearing a baseball cap and holding a white ceramic knife.
The man, whom she later identified as Povlich, approached her and said "all I want is your purse" and "I don't want to hurt you, where is your purse." The victim picked up her purse, and as Povlich took it from her, she grabbed hold of the side of the purse and dislodged her wallet.
Povlich fled out of the home with the purse, which contained keys and several other items.
About a week later, a man came to the Oak Creek police station to report he may given Povlich a ride to the home. He said after he drove to the area of Forest Hill and 15th avenues, Povlich told him to wait in the car. A short time later, Povlich returned soaking wet, breathing heavy and hiding something under his shirt.
The man later discovered Povlich was holding a purse, which Povlich said he was using as collateral. He also heard Povlich bragging about how he got a woman's purse in Oak Creek.
The victim was shown a photo array and identified Povlich as the person who entered her home and took her purse at knifepoint.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday.
