Oak Creek Man Accused of Trying to Break Into Jim Dandy's

30-year-old told police he was trying to steal liquor from the business.

A 30-year-old Oak Creek man is facing charges after he allegedly tried to break into a local tavern and steal liquor.

Dustin J. Rothgarn was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Monday with one count of attempted burglary and one count of criminal damage to property. If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison and $22,500 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On Nov. 26, Oak Creek police were called to Jim Dandy’s, 8900 S. 27th St., after the owner of the bar discovered windows smashed out on a van parked behind the tavern. While investigating the scene, police also discovered damage to the door of the business that appeared as if someone tried to break in.

The owner told police he thought Rothgarn might be involved in the incident. After going to Rothgarn’s apartment, police found a set of keys that had been inside the van.

Rothgarn admitted to the crime, telling police he tried to break into the bar to steal alcohol and then smashed out the windows of the van in order to steal something.

Rothgarn is currently being held in Milwaukee County Jail while awaiting trial.
