Motorcyclist Charged With 4th OWI

42-year-old Racine man was pulled over speeding in the 800 block of E. Ryan Road.

A 42-year-old Caledonia man who was pulled over for speeding Friday night has been charged with operating under the influence for the fourth time.

According to an report and criminal complaint, an officer pulled over Steven J. Wurtz, who was driving his motorcycle westbound on E. Ryan Road, about 10 p.m. after clocking him at 57 miles per hour in a 45 miles per hour zone. Wurtz sped up to 61 miles per hour when a traffic light turned yellow, according to the complaint.

Police said Wurtz had glassy eyes, slurred speech and the smell of intoxicants on his breath. He was arrested and taken to Wheaton Franciscan for a blood draw.

He was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Monday with one count of fourth-offense operating while intoxicated. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

Wurtz was previously convicted of OWI in 1991, 1993 and 2007. He will make his initial appearance in court Wednesday.

Police also cited him for speeding and operating without a valid license and gave him a warning for driving without insurance.
