Oak Creek Man Arrested for 7th OWI

David A. Van Derboom was pulled over near the airport Sunday night and had a preliminary blood-alcohol content of .15, according to the Sheriff's Office.

A 50-year-old Oak Creek man was arrested for drunken driving for the seventh time Sunday after a sheriff's deputy saw him deviating lanes on Howell Avenue.

David A. Van Derboom faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of OWI-7th, a felony.

The deputy pulled him over about 6:15 p.m. near Mitchell International Airport. Van Derboom initially denied he had been drinking, but blew a .15 on the breathalyzer, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.

Van Derboom was previously convicted of drunken driving in June 1991, February 1993, twice in March 1993, July 1995 and October 2002.

Nothing will happen until there is a fatality. Slap on the wrist. Rinse. Repeat.

The reason these people keep repeating their crime of driving while drunk is because they fear no real jail time. The judges just keep letting them out over and over again. This has got to stop! Once these people get caught it should be a combination of mandatory jail and "serious" on going counseling for these people. Not just a week or two for a few classes. They should HAVE to have counseling for months or else the jail time even goes higher. Call your legislatures and senators and DEMAND stronger drunken driving laws. Wisconsin is the worst is the country.

Looks to me like he's been behaving for ten years. NOW, he faces TEN YEARS in prison?? Lets get for real. Do you know how many over crowed prisons we have here in WI? How many are locked in county jails? How about state security centers? We are encouraged not to use physical punishment on children but we lock adults like animals in over-crowded cages? HAS IT WORKED? NO. About all it has done is create underpaid jobs and benefits paid for on tax dollars with a revolving door that assures job security. , Serious crime criminals belong in prison. We are applying the concept of danger to self and others on speculation. Contact your legislatures if you really understand the depth of the problem drunk driving and incarceration and treatment is all about.
