WPC Technologies has received approval from the city to build a tank farm as part of its new headquarters in Oak Creek.
The company is moving its headquarters from Milwaukee to 7350 S. 6th St. WPC manufactures various coating products, including rust and stain inhibitors and coating additives. Its operation requires large quantities of chemicals be stored in outdoor tanks.
Dan Fredrickson, owner of neighboring Henkel Corporation, expressed concern in a Common Council meeting Tuesday about the impact on his business, as well as the safety of his own employees.
City officials said the tanks will be designed to contain any spills and have all the required safety measures. The company is also working closely with the Oak Creek Fire Department to ensure all fire codes are met.
The building, which is under renovation, is in a manufacturing zoning district. The tank farm will not be seen from 6th Street, according to a report to council members.
The council unanimously approved a conditional-use permit.
