What is Wispark going to do with the remaining 50 acres???

Why is the city looking at buying land, they have a city hall, fire station and library to build. After that they have to tear down the old buildings and clear the land that the city hall, fire station 1 and library were on to make way for a high school expansion that will add a freshman only wing to the high school. These projects take money. Where does the city plan on getting the money for all of these projects?

Besides, why should the city have to buy land it already controls. This property hasn't been used in years, the city should have declared Eminent Domain, and taken it back...it is city land after all. Landowners only hold a title of deed granted by the city to use that land, and the city can if necessary take the land away from the owner if the land has been abandoned or vacated by eminent domain.

I love how Wis Park/WE Energies think that they own Oak Creek.

I sure would love to see something happen there. It is such a waste there now with the abandoned factories.I walk that area now, and have noticed some good things happening.

It is prime lake front real estate, and it would be nice to see something better than apartments on the site. A tastefully done condo development with some new homes and some retail/entertainment businesses in the area would be nice, but there also has to be stronger housing and job markets to support such a project. Construction jobs that go away after the projects are done without more projects on a construction company's books to follow leads to layoffs and people having no way to pay their bills mortgages or leases, and minimum wage jobs don't allow a person the ability to afford a condo, house or apartment with rent above $500/month, so we have to consider that in the planning strategy.

This project...any project Oak Creek is considering undertaking has to be planned carefully. The markets have to be there to support them otherwise the projects will become financial failures, and the city, it's taxpayers and developers will lose a lot of money, and buildings and land will once again sit vacant.

Dont count on condos, the market is dead weight. The home market is dead until the economy recovers which could be awhile yet. Im more worried about filling existing neighborhoods that are not filled with homes yet. our best bet would be to find some clean energy business or business interested in water research/development for the peter cooper site. If not for the recent vote on moving city hall to delphi, i d say the city was interested in moving the city hall and library over too the lake by this random buyout of this land and all this land swapping. Have to love our council, day before the election, Our city council decides to spend all this money.. back door oak creek politics like usual.

why dont we just sell we-park the rest of the city then we wont have to pay taxs and listen to the lame excess from the aldermen when the city is broke

It would be nice if Catepillar stepped up with some $$$$ on the proposed lakefront park development with that location being so close to South Milwaukee and it's relationship now with Oak Creek as well as it's long time tie to SM.

The Peter Cooper portion that WisPark plans to keep is proposed :"office park".
I'm concerned over the city buying the lakebluff property the most expensive to develop and WisPark again getting the cream. The 2.3 million WisPark paid has come out of the PTF money. Essentially, the city is paying the buck so why does WisPark again hold deed? Remember, as of the deed transfer, we pay WisPark as project manager's five grand per month but there isn't any project manager agreement. If WisPark had for instance a committment from Kohls I could support this plan but again your city fathers are betting on a bird in the bush not a bird in the hand. VOTE THEM OUT.

@Paul, I think you've missed the part about no final plans have been made, therefore, either have the costs. Assumptions lead to rumors, you're off to a good start!

I understand that my opinion will get me no where, but I wish that the abandoned glue factory would be made into a place for young artists like me to use the facility to make beautiful art. I recently took a visit to the factory with a few friends and what I saw was unbelievable. There was extravagant pieces of art on every surface. I have never seen anything like it. Some may say that graffiti is vandalism but this factory has been transformed into a truly amazing piece of artwork. It would be very unfortunate to see a place like this disappear and be replaced by apartment complexes. They are spending millions to buy the property, and they are going to spend even more tearing it down. I know that probably no one will see this, but I would just like to voice my opinion. I would rather have a designated graffiti zone for people rather than getting in huge trouble for vandalizing
