Oak Creek Privatizing Garbage Pickup

The city of Oak Creek has reached an agreement with Johns Disposal Service to provide garbage pickup, which officials say will save $82,000 per year.
Nothing will change for residents, City Administrator Gerald Peterson said. The blue bins remain and the schedule stays the same.
Through privatization, the city is able to eliminate three Street Department positions that had been solely dedicated to refuse collection. No layoffs are planned; officials expect attrition through retirements.
Johns Disposal Service came highly recommended by neighboring communities, Peterson said.
The Oak Creek Common Council approved a two-year contract worth $418,200 each year, with the option to extend the contract an additional two years.
