Everywhere you looked Tuesday, Meadowview Elementary School was green and gold.

With a good reason - it was the day the school welcomed Mason Crosby, the kicker of the undefeated, defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers.

The appearance came thanks to a parent who nominated Lora Haslbeck's third-grade class to win the visit through an FM 106.1 radio contest.

After being serenaded by a Go Pack Go chant as he entered the building, Crosby met with Haslbeck's students for about a half hour, answering questions, showing off his Super Bowl ring, signing autographs and posing for photos with students.

Afterward, he greeted the entire school in the gymnasium.

Crosby's appearance came just two days after nailing the game-winning kick to beat the New York Giants Sunday and keep the Packers unbeaten.

A few other Packers were seen in the Milwaukee area on Tuesday. Fullback John Kuhn signed autographs in Brookfield for people who donated food to the Hunger Task Force, as Brookfield Patch reported. Wide receiver Donald Driver, meanwhile was in Waukesha and Wauwatosa signing his copies of his book.

This is a one day event that who knows how much work went into. Why can't our school district get better test scores? State average is not good enough when we bring in the bottom. The board settles for less than what the people deserve.

This was a one day event that was an award for a great school and great classroom that is doing a lot each day for the education of the students in the class/ school. Most prep work was done by a very committted parent group that supports what the staff does to make the children's day educational, meaningful and fun.
