OCHS Students Developing Garden To Honor Temple Shooting Victims

Garden, to be constructed in front of the school, will symbolize the need for unity and racial tolerance.

Students at Oak Creek High School are developing a garden in front of the school to honor those who lost their lives during the Aug. 5 shootings at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin.

According to Mayor Steve Scaffidi, the garden will include a plaque and native prairie flower plantings to symbolize students' efforts to "cultivate unity and racial tolerance necessary for a healthier community."

The high school played a prominent role in the aftermath of the shootings, hosting the funeral for the six victims and a community-wide meeting about how to move forward.

Scaffidi has more in his Mayor's Message, which also has information about his fitness/weight loss challenge, the latest on the response to the temple shootings and events commemorating the anniversary of 9/11.
