Plans For Animal Hospital Scrapped
After winning a battle with the Oak Creek Common Council last fall, Animal Hospital of Oak Creek will not opened as planned at 8870 S. Mayhew Drive.
Animal Hospital of Oak Creek, which last fall got a permit to open only after Mayor Dick Bolender broke a tie, has now canceled plans to open in the city.
Hospital Administrator Isaiah Gray said in an e-mail the plans are off "for now," but that Animal Hospital of South Milwaukee is still open and "committed to being a resource for the nearby communities."
He couldn't be reached for further comment.
Animal Hospital of Oak Creek planned to open in a multi-tenant building at 8870 S. Mayhew Drive, just south of Oak Creek High School.
The council originally rejected a permit for the business, saying the office building was not an appropriate location for an animal hospital. The proposal eventually passed the next month.
The clinic was planned as an expansion of Animal Hospital of South Milwaukee, owned by Gray at 920 Milwaukee Ave.
Meanwhile, plans for another new animal hospital -- which happened to come forward at the same time as Animal Hospital of Oak Creek -- have come to fruition.
Lakeshore Veterinary Specialists is part of the multi-tenant Pick 'n Save building near the corner of 27th Street and Ryan Road. It's open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and serves as a referral center for critical-care cases that cannot be handled by nearby clinics.
