Prime Table Restaurant Reopens

The Oak Creek Health Department had shut down the restaurant following a complaint of a cockroach found in soup.

Prime Table Family Restaurant was permitted to reopen Friday, a few days after a complaint about a cockroach found in soup led to the restaurant's closure.

The Oak Creek Health Department suspended the restaurant's license and said it was working with Prime Table to remediate the problems at the establishment.

The license was reinstated Friday. WISN-TV reported the health department also checked neighboring businesses in the Oak Creek Plaza shopping center, at the corner of Drexel and Howell avenues, and found no evidence of cockroaches.

Jason, I'm pretty sure it won't be packed on Sundays anymore, unless you count the cockroaches.

This situation had caused me to consider some of the other places I've been eating at too. I'm sure we will be avoiding Prime Table in the future. It's just not worth taking a chance at. You know that the owner and staff had to know there was a problem and didn't do enough to fix it. I wonder what their favorite dish was? YUCK.

Cockroaches are great travelers and will always be with us and here after we are gone. Yes, restaurants do get and have cockroaches and other vermin too.
Did you check your clothing to be sure a cockroach isn't traveling with you? How can we be sure this wasn't an attention seeking cockroach, perhaps put into the soup for some reason other than being such a filthy place - which it is not. The manager/owner is usually present, watching over this business, wanting things to be right.
He has reasonable prices for this area and his regular customers will stand by him and this Prime Table Restaurant. I know I will continue to eat there and enjoy the wait staff and the food. I do get an occasional dirty glass but I point it out to the wait staff, and don't go running to the health department. I've had a piece of glass in my chop suey at a popular Cudahy Chinese restaurant. I've had a rather large mosquito-looking bug in my salad at a Wauwatosa restaurant. The managers are always very concerned and in Wauwatosa gave me and my husband our dinners free for pointing it out to them - quietly.
Show some kindness - think about how many people have lost wages and right before the Christmas holidays from having this scare - no one lost their meal, did they?

@DeeDee- Absolutely!!! All these people rushing to judgement. As you stated who is to say that said individual did not place the roach in his or her soup!!!! I mean come on I have been eating there for many years and have never had an issue. The place is and was always clean, never even had to return dirty silverware, the restrooms always clean and smelled clean as well.
Such BS that people jump on the boycott ban wagon without really knowing the truth. Personally I feel it was his competition. The prime table still was a very reasonable place to have a decent meal. Unlike many other family style restraunts who charge generally 3 to 5 bukc smore per plate and less food. Prime Table always gave you plenty to eat and a very decent price!!! Get a clue people.
If all of you complaining about prime table coule see what crawls on, in and around your food that you have purchased from the super markets.

The news report said there was a "cockroach infestation". I think that is a little different than just something in the soup. There is no way an owner and workers could NOT know this. This is also one of the easiest things to prevent if you aren't too cheap to pay for it. An exterminator I know said that a restaurant that size could be done for about $50 a month.

That place has not been clean for years, everything you touch is sticky, greasy and just not clean!! I ran restaurants for years & know first hand when a place is kept clean and when it is not. Not to mention, two years ago we saw a woman fall and the owner/manager looked at her on the floor and walked away without even offering help!! Patrons all jumped in and helped her as he grabbed a towel to wipe up spilt water. Was probably just to afraid of a lawsuit to help....very sad. We have not and will not go back in that place since that happened. It should have stayed closed, it likely was an infestation. I would rather pay a couple bucks more and not dine in filth and eat bugs.

Not sure what the Obama comment has to do with cockroaches....well, actually, I guess I do see. Health department reports are available to the public. I suggest anyone thinking this was just an 'oopsie' ....look into them.

I'm sure the health department wouldn't of opened them again so soon if it wasn't clean of roaches I've never seen or had problems with any of mine or the family's food infact we were there this morning and everything was nice. The place was full of people today .People just like to assume things and love to gossip because they have nothing else or better to do. The restaurant wouldn't be open for 20+ years if what everyone else claims it to be so bad n discusting.

Only closed two days seems awfully fast to get rid of a cockroack/vermen problem. And they did have both. Cockroaches were seen walking on the counters as well as finding them in soup. The carpet should be torn out and the whole place sanitized, including the bathrooms. One time I ordered eggs and something told me to look under them. There was a disgusting long line of a slimy black substance under the eggs. I would check to see the qualifications of the cooks and if they wash their hands with soap after they come out of the bathroom. There have been complaints of the filthy conditions for years at Prime Table. Waitresses even quit because they were so disgusted. Is it possible to change a group of people's behavior in just two days? I hope the health department stays on them for months. They have lived like this for years. It's hard to believe that everything is going to magically changed in two days. What about hand washing, the cleaning of the soda lines. the warmth of the food, where food is stored, how old the food is, expiration dates on the food, how are dishes washed so no more lipstick marks will be on glasses, how do they sanitize their silverware and dished? These are all very valid questions that must be addressed by the health department. That is there job to follow through on all of these concerns for the public's safely.

Thank you OCR. You said it well. This is America and we all have the freedom to chose where we go to eat. I won't be headed to Prime Table again. It seems there are enough people on this posting site to keep them going on as usual. If you are one of the folks who received a lipsticked glass or dirty silverware and continue to go there, more power to you. Ignore the facts if you dare. I hope you have a nice healthy immune system to ward off what you can and cannot see with your naked eye. I say Bravo, to the patron who blew the whistle on his cockroach soup!

Dee Dee...I'm sure glad that I don't have friends like you do. It's a disgrace how she raised her teenage boys to have no respect for people or for the food they eat. These punks were paid to make pizzas, not contaminate them with their filthy spit. They should be bitch slapped. If you were any kind of a friend you would remind these "boys", that they can and will go to jail for sabotaging food in the future. Why don't you say something to your friend regarding what pigs she has for sons. You are just as bad for not speaking up. And then you have the gall to complain about other people with legitimate concerns about Prime Table. When you go back there, why don't you ask the owner to hire your friend's boys. Enjoy!

Heard yesterday that Omega has also closed. Is there a major cockroach outbreak? Roaches can be eradicated and when they can't they can be controlled with regular spraying. Obviously the owners didn't take action, pay the price of a good pest company for regular spraying. I wouldn't eat there or in any restaurant owned or managed by current management of the Prime Table. The place is dirty. Roaches are not eradicated with one spraying. The whole strip mall is probably infested at this point in time.

I work in pest control, I went there over 10years ago and looked in the kitchen and at the workers there. I walked back out the door. Most of these places hire illegals as well. Just take a look in any of these kitchens if you ever get the chance. You'd wonder if you are eating fresh food, or scraps off the floor, trust me. Seen this too many times in over 20 years!

@Phile & Vocal....I managed in the food industry for years & I could not agree with both of you more. It is people who cannot see things for what they are that continue to let places like this operate. If you get that "feeling" that things may not be clean from seeing the front of the house, you can only imagine how bad the back of the house is going to be! The establishment typically gets told that the "inspector" is coming so it was probably clean to the owners.......simply disgusting & no excuse for cockroaches on countertops & in soup. They are carelessly dirty & I hope they will eventually get closed down permanently, so a real restauranteur can take it over!!

I used to eat there years ago, the place has always been dirty, my shoes would stick to the carpet and tile, my arms would stick to the wood in the booths, all the owner would do is sit and trash the locals with his native friends that would come and sit there and talk trash, he would also swear absentees at the female wait staff in his native language. One day was sitting at the counter and ordered the all you can eat fried chicken asked for all white meat and told the waitress I would pay extra if there was a charge for that, the owner didn't know the order was for me at the counter, and when he heard her put in the order he started dropping the f word to the girl telling her f him he take what we give him. That was years ago and was my last visit, he runs into me once in a while and asks -why you no come in ?
