Q&A: El Fogon Owners Phil and Nelly Landa

The owners of El Fogon talk about their customers' and their own preferences at their Mexican restaurant.

Any restaurant with "tacos and beer" in its name is sure to attract attention.

And that's what El Fogon has done at the corner of Howell and Puetz avenues in the multi-tenant building anchored by North Shore Bank. The restaurant offers a wide range of Mexican specialties and regional dishes and will soon include an outdoor patio.

Patch spoke with El Fogon owners Phil and Nelly Landa about their customers' and their own personal preferences.

1. What's the most popular item on the menu?

The California Burrito—stuffed with steak, shrimp, cheese, french fries, pico de gallo and chipotle sauce.

2. What's your personal favorite?

The shrimp soup. It's hot and spicy, but delicious. The soup is prepared with potatoes, carrots and chile de arbol and topped with onions and cilantro.

3. What's the best deal?

The $5.99 lunch specials offer customers their choice of two tacos, enchiladas or quesadillas with rice, beans and a soda. They can also choose a tostada, small taco salad or small burrito with rice, beans and a soda.
