Four people were caught trying to break into cars in the 8300 block of S. Yorkshire Drive, just off Chicago Road south of Drexel, early Saturday morning.
Officers received a call about 1:15 a.m. that four people wearing black hooded sweatshirts were trying to get into vehicles. An officer chased one northbound into South Milwaukee and traced footprints to an apartment, though no one answered the door.
An officer later made contact with another person who admitted he and three others checked into cars around an apartment complex in the area.

He said they checked about 25 cars and tried to break into five. The boys' ages ranged from 15 to 17, and they were cited for attempted theft.
