Rain Results in Icy Roads, Multiple Accidents Sunday
Two intersections in Oak Creek were the site of several crashes as drivers were unable to stop due to slippery conditions.
A steady drizzle Sunday resulted in slippery conditions at two major intersections in Oak Creek.
Multiple crashes were reported at the intersection of 13th Street and Drexel Avenue, as well as Howell and Rawson avenues, Sunday afternoon and evening. No injures were reported.
The first crash came at 3:50 p.m. at 13th and Drexel, when a 29-year-old Oak Creek woman slid through the intersection and knocked down a stoplight in the median, according to a police report. She was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
About an hour later, a driver southbound on 13th Street was slowing for traffic when she hit a patch of ice, swerved to avoid the vehicle in front of her and went off the road, according to a police report. Her vehicle hit some small trees.
Police called the Milwaukee County Highway Department to salt the intersection, but the area apparently continued to cause problems. The highway department was called again about 9 p.m. after more reports of icy pavement.
The Rawson and Howell intersection also saw its share of problems Sunday.
Between 5:20 and 5:40 p.m., three separate accidents occurred when drivers were unable to stop, according to police reports.
A driver also hit a light pole at Howell and Ryan just before 6 p.m.
