Sikh Temple Member Appointed to CDA
Balhair Dulai, a 34-year resident of Oak Creek, will serve on a committee that functions as Oak Creek's economic development organization.
Oak Creek Mayor Steve Scaffidi has appointed a Sikh temple member to the city's Community Development Authority.
Balhair Dulai is a 34-year resident of Oak Creek and a trustee at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin. His appointment will be discussed at Tuesday's Oak Creek Common Council meeting.
In the aftermath of the Aug. 5 shootings at the temple, Scaffidi said he wanted to better integrate the temple into the community and sought a temple member to fill an open position on the CDA.
The CDA, which functions as Oak Creek's economic development organization, is an important municipal committee. The committee coordinates the city's marketing efforts to attract new businesses and monitors existing businesses and industries in Oak Creek.
Five residents and two aldermen sit on the committee. Members are appointed to four-year terms.
Scaffidi said he has gotten to know many temple members, including Dulai, pretty well in the last three weeks.
"He's a perfect candidate to serve on the committee," Scaffidi said.
