Golden Domes Added To Oak Creek Sikh Temple

The domes were a long-held desire of late president Satwant Singh Kaleka, who was among six killed in last summer's mass shooting.

On the day after the anniversary of last summer's mass shooting, temple members were hard at work beautifying their building.

Five golden domes have been added to the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin, 7512 S. Howell Ave.

The domes were something late temple president Satwant Singh Kaleka always wanted, his son, Pardeep, told the Associated Press.

Pardeep said he and his brother, Amardeep, gave much of their share of donations that came in following the attack back to the temple.Β About half was used to import five golden fiberglass domes from India, according to the report.

About $1.1 million poured in from around the world following the shootings, which took the lives of Kaleka's father and five others.

The Sikh and Oak Creek communities marked the 1-year anniversary of the attacks with a series of events that concluded with a vigil at the temple Monday night.
