Historical Society Festival Recalls Days of Yore

The city's farming history was on display at the Oak Creek Historical Society's fall festival Sunday.

Oak Creek's history as a farming community was in the spotlight Sunday at the Historical Society's annual fall festival, held at the society's Pioneer Village at S. 15th Ave. and E. Forest Hill Ave.

Among the items on display was an 1876 plat map showing land ownership, allowing residents to see whose farm they live on now and who owned the sites of businesses where they shop.

The festival also featured a wide variety of living-history presenters, including a working blacksmith, a fur trader, weaver and spinner; equipment from the Pioneer Farm Machinery Club; and a continuous slide show of Oak Creek history.
