Newtown Father To Attend Temple Shooting Anniversary Event

Robbie Parker, who lost his daughter in the Newtown shooting, will deliver remarks at a memorial 6K run/walk Saturday.

The father of a girl killed in the Newtown, Ct. school shooting will be in Oak Creek this week for the 1-year anniversary of the Sikh temple shooting.

The Associated Press reports Robbie Parker will deliver an address before a 6-kilometer run/walk to be held in memory of the six victims killed during the Aug. 5, 2012 attack at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin.

The event, Chardhi Kala, begins at 10 a.m. at Oak Creek High School. See a full list of temple shooting anniversary events here.

Parker lost his daughter, Emilie, in the Dec. 14 shooting. In the months since, he has spoken to a handful of groups encouraging people to find peace through tragedy, according to the report.

The AP reported that Pardeep Kaleka, who lost his father in the Sikh temple shooting, invited Parker to speak.

"Our grief is unimaginable, but me personally, I lost my dad who was 65 years old and lived a full life," Kaleka said. "When you lose a child, the way it happened, and you can make something good out of it, I think that's powerful."
