Oak Creek Cares Foundation Prepares Launch Event

Tickets are on sale for a New Year's Eve party at the community center that serves as a launch event for a new community foundation.

Tickets are on sale now for a New Year's Eve event at the Oak Creek Community Center that will serve as the formal launch party for Oak Creek Cares.

The new foundation is focused on security and safety improvements in Oak Creek and the surrounding area. Mayor Steve Scaffidi, one of the foundation's organizers, said the initiative came together following the city's response to the 2012 Sikh temple shooting.

He envisions Oak Creek Cares funding programs such as the police auxiliaries, neighborhood watch initiatives or improvements in lighting and security of public areas.

The Dec. 31 kick-off event will include appetizers, giveaways, dancing, a DJ and champagne at midnight. Organizers are also offering rides home for attendees.

Tickets can be purchased online and are also on sale at the community center, 8580 S. Howell Ave.
