Rawson Interchange Construction in Home Stretch

Construction of the nearly-year long project is expected to finish in November.

Crews working on the Rawson Interchange are coming down the home stretch on a project that has lasted for most of 2013.

The state Department of Transportation has targeted the end of November for completion of the reconstruction and is on pace to meet that goal, DOT spokesman Michael Pyritz said.

Pyritz left open the possibility that work could be done even sooner. A lot of the remaining work is dependent on the weather, he said.

"We're very excited about nearing the finish line on this particular project," Pyritiz said. "It's a very exciting one, both in terms of construction and certainly also a lot of impacts on the Oak Creek and Franklin area.

"I know a lot of people are really looking forward to this one being in the finished column."

The reconstruction project is bringing ramps closer to I-94 to allow for better traffic flow between 13th and 20th streets.

Work included a unique way to move 3-million pound bridge pieces into place in July.

The DOT reopened two lanes and a ramp in September. The remaining ramps will remain closed until later this fall.

The Rawson Interchange project is part of the massive I-94 north-south project, from the airport to the state line. Officials announced Tuesday that the project is on pace to come in under budget.
