Walgreens Bomb Threat May Be Part of Scam

Authorities say scammers are targeting Walgreens and CVS stores and demanding employees load prepaid cards.

The bomb threat that forced the evacuation of an Oak Creek Walgreens on Monday appears to be part of a scam targeting Walgreens and CVS stores across the country.

According to various reports, a man has called Walgreens and CVS demanding prepaid cards be loaded with $500, and tells employees that if he doesn't receive them, a bomb would go off.

At least four Wisconsin stores were targeted Monday, including Walgreens in Wauwatosa, Appleton and Greenville.

Authorities are still investigating. A spokesman for the Milwaukee FBI office did not immediately return a message Tuesday morning.

Bomb threats have also been made in states including Georgia, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri and North Dakota.
