Free Screening: Freedom Riders

A free screening of the May 2011 PBS broadcast of the documentary film, Freedom Riders, will be hosted by Milwaukee Public Television and the UW-Milwaukee Department of History.

The film commemorates the 50th anniversary of those who risked their lives for simply traveling together on buses as they journeyed through the Deep South, where integration was forbidden by local law and custom. They were met with bitter racism, mob violence and imprisonment along the way. Over eight months in 1961, their courage, sacrifice and commitment to nonviolence changed America forever.
