A New Funeral Home 'Option' For Oak Creek

Sunset Options will open on Mayhew Drive next year, but is providing its services to Oak Creek residents already.

LeRoy Stewart sees a dearth of funeral home options in Oak Creek and southern Milwaukee County. And he wants to be the man to fill that void.

Stewart runs Sunset Options, a new, small funeral home business serving Oak Creek residents. But you won't find a building anywhere β€” he brings his services directly to families or churches, trying to make it convienent for those grieving the loss of loved ones.

Stewart doesn't plan to be without a central location much longer. Sunset Options will lease space in the multi-tenant building at 8870 S. Mayhew Drive β€” near Centennial Drive behind the post office β€” next fall.

Stewart has worked in Racine for the past six years, but has been active in the Oak Creek area and has kids in local schools.

Seeing no options in the middle or eastern part of Oak Creek, Stewart has decided to branch out on his own. And though his business is just in its infancy, Stewart said Sunset Options has at least one major thing going for it compared to the established funeral homes: cost.

Whereas funerals with other businesses could cost $10,000 or more, Sunset Options offers rates that go as high as $7,000, and often below that, Stewart said.

"Affordability is a big key," he said.
