The three children of Shannon and Charles Dodd had their lives uprooted when their parents were deployed to Afghanistan.
Native to Texas, they went to live with their grandparents in Oak Creek November 2010 with their parents overseas.
The family was reunited earlier this month. But before they moved back to Texas, they presented the staff of KinderCare with an American flag that flew over their base in Kandahar.
, 7677 S. Howell Ave., was the place where the kids spent most of their time during the day. The Dodds, understandably nervous about leaving their kids behind, gave them the flag as a way to show appreciation for helping their children through a difficult transition.
"It's a wonderful honor," KinderCare Director Mandi Brown said.
The flag, which now hangs in Brown's office, flew over NATO Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit.
