Oak Creek Dental Care Seeks To Appease the Nervous

Family-owned business keeps its patients coming back.

"We specialize in dealing with very fearful people."

That's what Darlene Burton, financial coordinator at , says the business at 132 E. Drexel Ave. does best: taking care of the (many) people who come in nervous about the idea of drills and probes being stuck in their mouths.

Staff members are even specially trained to deal with high-anxiety people.

"That's kind of our niche, so to speak," she said.

And it's done largely by staying low key. The business takes pride in being family-owned, operating with the same familiar faces over the years so that customers know what - and, just as importantly, who - they're getting when they walk in.

In fact, Dr. Daniel Koester has seen generations of patients over his 30 years of practice, taking care of children who years later would bring their own children in to see him.

"If you come in and you recognize all the same faces, you're going to feel way more relaxed," said Laura Beisel, scheduling coordinator/administrator.

Oak Creek Dental Care has been in the multi-tenant Oak Creek Plaza, at the corner of Drexel and Howell, for the past eight years and in the community for about 15. Its customer base is largely made up of Oak Creek and Franklin residents, though some have come from as far away as Green Bay, Burton said, just to stay with Koester.

Over the years, the business has adjusted to the changing habits of its customers. People now often put things off only to have to visit the dentist in an emergency-type situation, Burton said.

That requires the staff to be flexible with the schedule so they can accommodate their patients' needs.

"If somebody is in pain, we want to get them in (to the clinic) and get them out of pain," Beisel said. She added that delaying dental work isn't the way to go - those cavities don't get any smaller, nor does the procedure get any cheaper.

In addition to Koester, Dr. Ehsan Saleki and a staff of 10 serve patients, focusing on services including dental cleaning, exams, x-rays, fillings, crowns and sedation dentistry.
