Updated: T-Shirt International to Cut 99 Jobs in Oak Creek

Layoffs would begin June 11.

Sportswear company T-Shirt International will lay off 99 people at its Oak Creek plant, 7730 S. 6th St.

No reason was given for the layoffs, which will begin on June 11, according to a report in the Milwaukee Business Journal.

A company representative could not be reached for comment Thursday.

The Oak Creek office operates with production, design, merchandising and sales personnel, according to its website.

Mayor Dick Bolender said his first reaction was empathy for the laid-off workers, whose lives are about to get more difficult.

"I feel bad we are losing a business," he said, "but I feel terrible for those employees."

T-Shirt International, a screen printer and embroiderer of T-shirts, sweatshirts and other sportswear, is based in West Virgina with branches in Oak Creek and the Pittsburgh area. 

TSI is the second company this year to announce major job cuts at a branch in Oak Creek.

CSM Bakery Supplies, 7350 S. 10th St., announced in March it would by the end of the year, resulting in about 100 lost jobs.
