Two Animal Hospitals Planned For Oak Creek

Plan Commission looked favorably on both proposals Tuesday night.

Oak Creek will likely be home to two new animal hospitals in the near future.

Facilities are set to open at 8870 S. Mayhew Drive and 2320 W. Ryan Road after the Plan Commission reviewed both proposals and recommended final approval from the Common Council.

One of the facilities will occupy a portion of the multi-tenant building on Ryan Road. Plans call for the hospital to be a referral center for critical-care cases that cannot be handled by nearby clinics.

The hospital will be open 24 hours, seven days per week and will be staffed by at least two people at all times. It will be similar to Milwaukee Emergency Center for Animals in Greenfield.

A representative of the clinic told the Plan Commission that within three years, 60 to 80 positions could be created.

Meanwhile, Animal Hospital of Oak Creek is planned for a portion of a multi-tenant office building at 8870 S. Mayhew Drive, just south of . The owners also operate Animal Hospital of South Milwaukee.

This hospital will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

City officials said they were comfortable with both proposals because all operations are inside (cutting down on obnoxious odors) and far away enough from any residential area.

The Common Council will take up both proposals Sept. 13.
