A Young Boy's Memories of Maile!

Kobi has many great memories of his special friend.

We said our goodbyes to Maile on Sunday and Kobi spent the weekend with a good friend.

While we were driving home, I was thinking of how Kobi will be 4 at the end of the month and will he remember Maile? I know he will forget her, but I want to tell him about his favorite times with Maile, and I would like to share some of them with you as well.

Our daughter, Erica, and Maile would come over for dinner on Sunday nights. Kobi would go running over to the stairs and grab Maile's hand and take her to his room. Our daughter, his sister, would go in the room as well. He would look at Erica and push her out of the room so just he and Maile could play and he would close the door on all of us.

Maile was with us the day we adopted Kobi, and she hugged and hugged and hugged him.

We would go to the candy warehouse that our daughter owns and Maile would be working, and she would stop and she would chase him around the warehouse, and he would just laugh and laugh.

We would have Easter Egg hunts and Maile would jump over the couch to get the next egg she spied. Kobi would just stand there and look at her like she was crazy.

These are just a few examples but we want to share the good memories with Kobi. He has a picture in his room of Erica, Maile and himself. If the day comes and he says "Who is that?", I will tell him but for now I plan on sharing these memories or as Kobi calls them, "stories."

It has been a hard week on Kobi because it is finally sinking in that Maile is not coming back.

It has been a week now since Maile has left us and each day is a challenge for all of us. We miss her but we will always love her, and that is what I have been telling Kobi.

Like his sister, Erica, Kobi says his heart goes ba-bump, ba-bump for Maile as well because she is in his heart. It is so difficult seeing both your children suffering, but with the help of family and lots of good friends, prayers and support, we are doing it.

I want Kobi to always try to remember the love he has for Maile.

So, Maile, until we all meet again, we love you and we miss you but you will always be in our hearts. Thank you for giving us six great years of memories.
