Will the wonders never cease?

Getting to know a child for who he is and not the color of his skin.

After we got back from South Dakota last week, we decided to go to northern Wisconsin and visit my husband's brother and sister-in-law.

We expected the worst but got the best.

You see, they are not fond of African Americans and to this day have never acknowledged Kobi. It has always bothered my husband and me because neither one of us was raised that way. We were always taught to be respectful of everyone.

We got there and Mark's brother immediately shook Kobi's hand and so did his wife. They had planned a nice day out on a small lake so we visited with them for a little while and then we all took off to have a fun day.

Kobi loves the water but it usually takes him about 15 minutes or so to get comfortable in the water. Mark's brother had a idea - he kept showing Kobi a trick in the water and Kobi kept inching closer to him. The closer Kobi got to his uncle, the farther into the water Mark's brother went until the water was up to Kobi's neck.

Mark and Kobi played for quite a while in the water and Mark's brother got out and sat and talked to me about how Kobi came to us.

After they were all done in the water, we had an early dinner and then went back to their place. We went to say goodbye and Mark's brother tossled Kobi's hair, gave him a hug and commented on what a cute kid he was.

We were thrilled that they fell in love with Kobi like we had.
