Health & Fitness

Some of My Favorite Web Sites

Find your favorite search engine and 'seek and you will find'. But be cautious, not everone is scrupulous.

There certainly are a lot of interesting web sites and I love the fact that there is so much information available to anyone. This has pros and cons because not all of it is reliable, so sometimes it takes some sorting to find a reputable one.

I want to share with you some of my favorite web sites. These are sites I have found to reliable and offer reputable information. Some of my favorites obviously will be fitness sites and the others are health sites or a mix of both.

The first one I like is Spry Living, spryliving.com. It covers general health issues, healthy eating and recipes and articles on fitness, as well as videos. It’s a good general all round site. Spry Living also has a weekly magazine in certain newspapers. I heard about  it while in Arizona. They also have an email newsletter one can subscribe to.

Another favorite of mine is Spark People, sparkpeople.com. It offers fitness ideas, dieting ideas and meal planners and calorie trackers, exercise videos, motivation and more. I use it a lot for the daily or weekly newsletters and exercise information and demonstrations, general wellness information and what they call Lifestyle Centers, which are in-depth guides to a variety of life stages and interests.

If you want to keep your mind sharp there are tons of games one can play on the computer. I don’t because I’d probably never get anything else done. I do like puzzles though and my favorite site for that is jigzone.com. They have a daily puzzle you can sign up for and it allows you to change the shapes of the puzzle pieces as well as how many pieces, and they have LOTS of puzzles to choose from. The puzzles are timed but you can turn the timer off if you need to take a break. Be cautious though when doing games on the computer because you can stare so long you get dry eyes and one can get a sore back if in one position too long.  Playing games and doing puzzles can help keep the mind sharp.

Another good site to peruse is the Mayo Clinic site, mayoclinic.com and click on Health Information. They have articles on a wide variety of health topics.

Webmd.com/fitness-exercise is another good site for an all-round selection including health & fitness, healthy eating and diet, food and cooking, healthy eating guides and more. They have news and features as well and videos.

My favorite fitness magazine is Oxygen Magazine and their website oxygenmag.com is a good one to look up workout ideas as well as health & fitness and healthy eating articles. They also have great advice on ‘clean eating’ which is eating foods as close to their natural form as possible. I always come away with good ideas from them.

So there you have it, and I’m sure if you search ‘health & fitness’ or ‘exercise for adults’ or whatever, you’ll come up with a lot of choices. Just be sure to scrutinize them for validity and responsible articles and maybe you’ll find some that will motivate you or educate you and improve your health and well being. Good luck searching!
