Busy Sunday Ahead in Oak Creek

9/11 remembrance ceremony kicks off day full of community events.

With the Packers not playing and good weather in the forecast, Oak Creek residents have plenty to do in the community on Sunday. 

First up is the Oak Creek Fire Department's 9/11 remembrance ceremony at 8:45 a.m. Sept. 11 outside , 7000 S. 6th St.

The department will dedicate a new monument as part of a Sept. 11 memorial.

From noon to 4 p.m., the Oak Creek Celebrations Commission will host the eighth-annual Pig and Chicken Roast at , 315 E. Groveland Drive.

A $4 adult ticket includes 1/4 chicken or pork sandwich with potato chips and beans. A $1 kids ticket includes a hot dog, potato chips and snacks.

Baked potato, corn on the cob, soda, water and beer are also available. 

The event will also include a car show, kids games and music. 

At the same time, the Oak Creek Historical Society will host its 13th-annual Fall Festival, set for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the society's historical buildings at S. 15th Ave. and E. Forest Hill Ave. 

Civil War and World War II re-enactors, dozens of artifacts and a Civil War Medal of Honor highlight the free event.

A working blacksmith, a basket-weaver, other history-oriented demonstrations and music will also be part of it. Luncheon items, baked goods and many other items will be for sale.

A $1 raffle has the grand prize of a handmade quilt. Among the other prizes is an autographed Green Bay Packer football from the 2010 Super Bowl championship season.

A special tribute to the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks will be held at 11:30 a.m.
