Frozen Yogurt Chain Lands In Oak Creek

YoFresh Yogurt Cafe will open in the multi-tenant North Shore Bank building at the corner of Puetz and Howell. The owners hope to open by early October.

Former Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputy Steve Karabon wasn't content to sit around and take it easy during his retirement.

So he decided to try his hand at running a business.

He and his fiancee, Annie Piontek, spent many hours researching franchise opportunities and thinking about what business they would be interested in running. As the days passed, frozen yogurt kept coming to the forefront.

Construction on the interior is under way now, and Karabon's goal is to open by early October.

YoFresh Yogurt Cafe offers a variety of flavors, toppings and smoothies, and prides itself on the healthiness of its food.

Inside, Karabon is hoping to create a casual atmosphere that will allow for an easy meeting place for family and friends. It also figures to be a nice dessert option for El Fogon-goers.Β

Karabon and Piontek both have about 20 years in Oak Creek, having purchased homes in the early 1990s.

It was important to them to open their business in the community, Karabon said, and found the spot at Howell and Puetz fit their needs and came at the right price.

And no similar businesses are around. While frozen yogurt restaurants have become increasingly popular, it seems to have missed the southern end of Milwaukee County.

Until now.
