Health Dept. Offers Tips On Beating The Heat

Residents needing a place to cool off can call Oak Creek Health Department.

With temperatures expected to be in the 90s all week, the Oak Creek Health Department urges people to find a cool place and beat the heat.

The health risks associated with excessive heat are real, especially for elderly people, small children, people on medication and people with weight or alcohol problems, Oak Creek Health Officer Judi Price said.

Residents can visit the Oak Creek Public Library or community center if they do not have access to air conditioning. For more information on other cool options in Oak Creek, contact the Health Department at (414) 768-6525.

Health officials caution residents to slow down and reduce outdoor activities, especially during the hottest parts of the day, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It's also a good idea to wear light-colored clothing and drink plenty of water.
