Hoan Bridge Under Construction Until November

Latest work is $7.4 million worth of repairs.

Oak Creek residents who commute downtown saw the orange cones come out on the Hoan Bridge Thursday.

They won't be going away anytime soon.

The $7.4 million project repairing pavement on the bridge's deck and surface areas is expected to be completed, weather permitting, by the end of November, according to a state Department of Transportation news release.

Two lanes of Interstate 794 will remain open in each direction during peak traffic times, officials said.

The construction will take place from just north of the Michigan Street ramps to just south of the Carferry Drive ramps. The Carferry on-ramp closes for about 60 days during the first stage of the project, as well as 30 days near the end of the project.

Similar construction took place last summer on the bridge. The Hoan has faced problems for years; legislators and state officials are still mulling long-term solutions.
