Immigration Protection Promised For Shooting Victims' Families

U.S. Attorney James Santelle said officials will ensure that no one in the Oak Creek Sikh community is removed from the country.

U.S. Attorney James Santelle has promised immigration protection to family members of Sikh temple shooting victims, according to a SikhNN story.

"Between now and February, when visas begin to expire, (we will) ensure that no one in the Oak Creak community, in that gurdwara, is removed from this country," SikhNN quotes Santelle as saying at a Sikh-American Legal Defense and Education Fund gala.

The gala was held Oct. 6 in Washington D.C. two months after the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin shootings, which left six dead and four wounded.

The event also featured Oak Creek Mayor Steve Scaffidi, who read a letter from police Lt. Brian Murphy thanking the Sikh community for its support. Murphy was shot 15 times during the attack.
