Boston Marathon Bombing: O.C. Firefighters OK

One city firefighter was there to run the race and a second firefighter was in Boston watching the marathon at the time of the bombings.

An Oak Creek firefighter who ran the Boston Marathon is OK following the bombings near the finish line Monday.

A second Oak Creek firefighter was in Boston watching his girlfriend run in the race, said Matt Schrader, public relations officer for the firefighters' union. They are safe as well.

No Oak Creek residents are listed in an online directory of Boston Marathon participants.

At least two were killed and numerous people injured after two bombs exploded just before 3 p.m. in Boston. See Patch's media partners at WISN for continuing coverage.

According to an Associated Press report, two explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon had people carrying bloody spectators into the medical tent. The latest report indicates that at least two people are dead and that dozens are injured.

"There are a lot of people down," the AP quoted one man saying. The explosions happened about three hours after the winners crossed the finish line.

NBC News reported fire engines, police and emergency medical personnel were headed to the scene. An affiliate reporter told NBC News she heard two loud explosions, and that "everybody kind of ducked and hit the ground," and Jackie Bruno, reporter for New England Cable News said she saw people with significant injuries, including one person with a leg blown off.

"Runners were coming in and saw unspeakable horror," Bruno said.
