Surprise: Short-Lived Lake Effect Snow Creates Hazards

The National Weather Service issued the following statement regarding the snowfall Friday, which has taken the forecast of 'light lake effect snow in the morning, with up to two inch accumulations' to a new level.

The release states:

A period of moderate to heavy snow and blowing snow is expected today...along an artic front that will affect southeast Wisconsin from late (Friday) morning through the middle of the afternoon.

Northeast winds will gust 35 to 40 mph with the initial arrival of the cold front and snow. The blowing snow will produce brief whiteout conditions, and roads will become snow covered and hazardous.

Accumulations will range from 2 to 3 inches by the middle of the afternoon.

The cold front pushing through our area will also plummet temperatures and wind chills as the day goes on, with overnight lows in the single digits in many areas.
