Vehicle Strikes Pedestrian Near Menards

Police are investigating an early Tuesday morning incident on 27th Street that sent a 22-year-old man to the hospital.

A minivan hit a 22-year-old Franklin man in an incident early Tuesday morning near the parking lot of , 6800 S. 27th St.

According to an Oak Creek police report:

The man told police that a minivan with 4-5 occupants stopped near him on 27th Street. A passenger rolled down the window and shouted at him. The vehicle then squealed its tires, accelerated toward him and struck his right hand with the front passenger-side bumper.

The van then reversed back onto 27th Street, went up over the curb, squealed its tires again and headed northbound on 27th Street.

The man said he could hear the people in the van laughing throughout the incident.

He was taken to Wheaton Franciscan Hospital with pain and swelling in his right hand.

Police arrived about 2:30 a.m. and got surveillance video from nearby Melrose restaurant. The video captured some of the incident, though the van striking the man apparently happened out of the camera's range.

Police were not able to get a license plate number from the video.
