VIDEO: Oak Creek Through the Years

Reader-submitted video shows the Oak Creek of yesteryear.

Thanks to Steve Kuzma for sending along this video showing his take on Oak Creek's history - from its farming and manufacturing roots to the present day.

Steve writes:

In the city I live in, a new town hall has just been built. A giant project and a great stride for our city. The Howell Plaza is booming with businesses like Sentry Foods, Coast to Coast Hardware and Marine Bank. That’s my city. Carrollville still has its own post office and a striving glue factory. Jursiks and Varga's Bar are serving up the locals. Local schools such as Otjen are educating the Carrollville kids. Four more schools are being built to educate more kids, then local expansion is supposed to take a slow down. Especially after the largest public building project took place, the building of Oak Creek high school at a cost of $3.2 million.

Farm fields are still as far as the eye can see and Puetz is nearly a non-traveled road. Highway 100 is just two lanes and is not lighted with interstate lighting. Our city takes pride in the maintenance of are city land and grounds. The has snowmobile races every winter and tractor shows every summer, though tractors are seen nearly everyday. Our schools are full of local kids whom excel in the sports field. Our snow is plowed by city locals in graders and the salting of roads is zero to none.

Well water is now distinguishably being switched to lake water after retrieving the intake line from Allis –Chalmers. We take pride in are local industries, such as AC Delco. A factory we strived to get is now being torn to pieces. The officials of our town hall stay at work till one in the morning near Christmas in excitement for a new town charter. Our city has a new beautifully built power plant, giving us power and making us a city. Which we almost didn’t become due to a fight with Milwaukee over tax revenue they wanted.
