La Toya Sykes, the Managing Partner at Dampeer & Canady LLC, has been elected as the new Board President of Lead2Change as of April 30th. She is also on the President’s Advisory Council at Carroll University, a member of the board of directors of African World Festival, and a member of the board of the Women’s Fund of Greater Milwaukee serving as the Chair of the Board Development and co-chair of the Women in Public Policy committees.

Sykes is no stranger to philanthropy as she has assisted students and families in reaching their higher education potential for over 18 years. She has also directed the philanthropic efforts of organizations, committing over $46 million in funding, support, and resources for college outreach and access programs and professionals.

“Lead2Change is extremely fortunate to have in its new board president such an experienced, talented and passionate person. I look forward to continuing my working relationship with her.” said Naryan Leazer, outgoing board president.

“As an organization that empowers youth as leaders and philanthropist, with demonstrated impact on the city of Milwaukee, as well as receiving national recognition. I am honored to accept this role,” says Sykes.

As board chair some of Sykes’ responsibilities will include: insuring financial stability, maintaining organizational structure, and raising awareness of the organization.

Sykes is also planning to launch her social media campaign this Monday, which will celebrate not only her birthday, but also an opportunity for Lead2Change, as it is designed to help fund the organization through donations.

The website can be found at http://www.gofundme.com/92zf28, but Sykes also plans to utilize Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to help kick start a viral campaign. The social media campaign will begin on May 12th and end on Sykes birthday on May 21st. Sykes explains that everyone is welcome to donate.

“As opposed to a party with presents, people can make contributions to Lead2Change,” says Sykes.

The first step to changing life, the universe, and everything is to change your community.
